You fail to grasp the sheer irony. In the 17th and 18th century, most Americans were illiterate. During the former, they were burning witches based on purely subjective evidence, such as a tingling sensation when “goody” Ballbust passed in the street. 19th Century, objective, verifiable evidence became the accepted norm in jurisprudence, but lynching and dueling were still commonplace and some people owned slaves, and as for the Indians, well...
After the 20th Century and already a quarter of the way through the 21st, the literate, non-slave-owning, non-lynching, no-longer-doing-mean-things-to-uh...Native-Americans young generation wallows in guilt for the past, fornicates with no self control, murders babies, targets Jooos! and has no respect whatever for parents, teachers, the elderly or their own history. I went to a UMC service in 2010. Walking in....I found the congregation mostly (say 75-percent) over the age of 50. Fewer than 20 people in the building (nice structure from 1949)...under the age of 21. It was a dying church.
Took me about 30 min after the service...conversing with folks, that their path ahead (designed by the ministers/their bosses) was to bring Hispanics in. I pointed out that most ‘new’ Hispanics sought old-country type religion-connections...not being hyped-up by the UMC message. They couldn’t grasp that.
Later, you could see the next attempt at new membership was the LGBTQ community and thinking that ‘new’ blood could be found.
