**In short, should our “heroes” get a subsidy to maintain their multi-million $$ salaries and lavish lifestyles?**

The fact that sports produce ‘heroes’ shows how simple minded we have become, for example:

People going bonkers with joy because some guy was able to catch a ball inside an endzone. Then the guy, that was their hero, gets offered more money to play for another team. The hero then does the same ‘heroics’ against his former team.

Yaaaay!! /s

The Jets and the Giants do not even play their games in NYC.

Actually, that has happened, think of Steven Ross and the Miami Dolphins, that stadium was massively renovated a few years ago.

Besides the 10 NFL events a year, there is now a F1 Race held at the stadium every year, college football is played there, a college football bowl game is played there every year, College Football National Title games and Super Bowls have been played there.

Around the stadium is a series of hotels and other development that would likely not be there if these events were not happening

If you concentrate on just the NFL, you’re right, it may not be worth the price, but in certain places that have marketed their stadium for other events, the economics make more sense.

I don’t see the relevance of that fact, economically having two teams share a stadium in a major city is more justifiable than the opposite.

The 49ers don’t play in San Francisco, the Patriots don’t play in Boston, so it’s not uncommon.

They could move that team tomorrow and I’d get drunk for joy

Land is valuable in NYC so that’s why they don’t have a football stadium there. Even if they can have a game there 16 times a year.

The stadium was built on cheaper land, just like in San Francisco and New England, that seems to be a sound business decision, the stadium for the Giants and Jets is used more than just the NFL.

A Super Bowl was played in that stadium, concerts are held there, major concerts are played there as well.

This website runs the numbers—the stadium subsidies are ripoffs of taxpayers—every single time:

How often do NFL stadiums fill to capacity anyway?

On paper, most of them, almost all the time. Corporations buy seats for business purposes. If the game doesn't sell out, a blackout rule kicks in to prohibit local broadcasting of the game.

In reality, some to many of these "paid for" seats are empty depending on the team, and who that team is playing. Last time I went to a game was the 2002 Rams in St. Louis against the Cowboys. I was in the nose bleed seats (Row VV), in the corner of the field. Astonishingly bad seats. I was surrounded by Cowboys fans and was badly out shouted. The local fans seemed to be tepid. The Rams never captured the imagination of the locals, whether it was in Cleveland, Los Angeles, Anaheim or St. Louis.

The New York Football Giants, on the other hand, had a 20 year wait list for PSL (Personal Seat Licenses) last I heard (many years ago, but if they had that when they REALLY stuck, they likely have that now.

There are a lot of people with money who like going to NFL games.

Taylor Swift concert, Super Bowl, what else? That's not much.

As long as the NFL promotes leftist causes, keep the taxpayer spigot closed.

I agree. There should never be a single cent of tax payer money ever spent on a sports stadium.

IF you look at the 2026 World Cup, a lot of those matches will be played in the USA, the sites are in Football stadiums, I think a couple will be in the Giants/Jets stadium.

Yes. The final will be in New Jersey. It was supposed to be in LA.

Too late for my hometown it appears:

New Nissan Stadium is a domed American football stadium to be built in Nashville, Tennessee for use by the Tennessee Titans, succeeding the current Nissan Stadium beginning in 2027. The 60,000-seat stadium is projected to cost $2.1 billion, $1.26 billion of which is subsidized by the public.
