How are things going in China? That is a question of great interest to everyone in the world, both inside China and out. Of all countries, China has either the largest or second-largest population (neck and neck with India at about 1.4 billion), and an economy that is a relatively close second to the United States in absolute production (although less than 20% as prosperous on the basis of per capita GDP). China’s economy has clearly grown rapidly since the 1980s, but there is conflicting information as to whether that growth is continuing, or perhaps stalling out. If China is...

Most states spy. In principle there’s nothing to stop them. But China’s demand for intelligence on the rest of the world goes far beyond anything western intelligence agencies would typically gather. It encompasses masses of commercial data and intellectual property and has been described by Keith Alexander, a former head of the National Security Agency, as “the greatest transfer of wealth in history.” As well as collecting data from government websites, politicians, universities, think tanks and human rights organizations, China also targets Chinese diaspora groups and individuals. Congress has just cracked down on the Chinese-owned TikTok, which has admitted that...

A University of Florida research employee and students have been implicated in an illegal, multi-million dollar scheme that saw samples of dangerous drugs and toxins illicitly shipped to China over a period of seven years. The scheme, investigated by the Justice Department, saw thousands of biochemical samples bought illegally which were then delivered to a campus laboratory before being shipped overseas, according to federal court records. Among the students tied to the scheme was the president of UF's Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Nongnong 'Leticia' Zheng. The group openly protested a Florida law signed by Gov. Ron De Santis last...

An embattled DA has canceled an event to announce her Chinese name months after she was accused of making 'hateful remarks' about Asians. Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price sent out a press release to announce the bizarre event at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center at 12pm on Tuesday. But the next morning it was called off after she was mocked online by Asian locals who called it pandering after she was accused of racism by former staff. They also thought it was a strange thing to do in general as Price, who is black, has no Chinese heritage. 'Someone...

China’s top-secret spaceplane has released a mysterious object into Earth’s orbit just 372 miles above the surface. The US Space Force is monitoring the situation, but the purpose of the object ejected on May 24 is unknown. A Harvard astrophysicist first spotted the object, speculating it could be a subsatellite deployment, or a piece of hardware ejected before the spaceplane ends its mission and deorbits.

There’s no way in hell they shouldn’t tell all’.. The FBI is closing the book on the agency’s “corrupt” handling of James “Whitey” Bulger — forever. The feds are refusing to make any further installments of Bulger’s case file public, saying the records are “investigative” and no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act. “The records responsive to your request are law enforcement records; there is a pending or prospective law enforcement proceeding relevant to these responsive records, and release of the information could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings. Therefore, your request is being administratively closed,”...

Late last year, a CNA crew travelled to North and South America to document the journeys of Chinese citizens crossing borders as illegal immigrants. The team behind Walk The Line now shares how the series was made.In Ecuador’s capital city, Quito, there can be found a guest house catering almost exclusively for Chinese travellers. Last December, when it also accommodated a film crew from CNA, the usual suspects were rather concerned. “As soon as we checked in and the people in the guest house knew that we were journalists, … people were tense. They’re like, ‘Why are there journalists here?’”...

When you hear that one of Hunter Biden’s former business partners may be going public with some of the family’s dirty laundry, the first name that comes to mind is probably Eric Schwerin. And it’s true that Schwerin is reportedly cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s investigations into Biden Incorporated. But today’s story is about a different associate of Hunter, Joe, and Jim. Gal Luft is a think tank executive who used to represent a Chinese energy corporation that basically served as a front for the Chinese Communist Party and reportedly paid Hunter Biden millions of dollars. Luft is in...

Where did China get the idea to dominate specific sectors of the tech industry by pushing out US competitors? The plan, known as "Made in China 2025," was at least partly inspired by a 300-page book written for them by McKinsey and Company, an American strategy and management consulting firm. The Financial Times was the first to report on McKinsey's contribution to China's 13th five-year plan back in February.A McKinsey-led think-tank advised China to deepen co-operation between business and the military and push foreign companies out of sensitive industries as part of a project for the central government in 2015.The...
