There is also mention in the article of the President saying he considers DeLay a friend, although more in a working relationship way rather than social friends.

Is there a place in this country where we can buy a spine?

Geez this is nuts.

RECYCLE...

Making laws is the duty of the Congress. They are the only ones who have to consider foreign opinion. They of course are answerable to THE PEOPLE so if THE PEOPLE want to follow a foreign lead then so will Congress. For judges to interpret laws any way other than as they are written by representatives of THE PEOPLE is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. If judges don't follow the Constitution THE PEOPLE have recourse through the Congress to remove them via the impeachment process. Correct me if I am wrong... I think this is 9th grade Civics.

The problem is that these judges are "making" laws that 40% of THE PEOPLE and most of the press agree with, and, since this 40% can't assert their will any other way, they support, and will continue to support, the Kritocracy now in place. Which is, in a nut shell, why the Democrats in the Senate are opposing Bush nominees on an ideological rather than a qualification (experience and morals) basis.

I don't see why he should apologize for his comments about judges generally. Specifically, if his comments about juges were about the Shivo case, yes he should apologize. He had no business being involved. He should also apologize for maligning the Terri's husband.

My thoughts on the Shivo debacle:

He should not apologize for saying the truth. Instead he should keep speaking out loudly. This causes me to lose respect for him.

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay apologized Wednesday

Tom DeLay:

"He ain't called 'the hammer' for nothing..." (boy how many times did I hear that silly thing last week...)

Which hammer is he?

At the same time, he added, the Constitution gives Congress power to oversee the courts

Which they refuse to do, since they will be lied about and ruined by the news media as DeLay was. The Republicans need to learn one thing: Don't apologize; Get even. Alas, alas, this great country is sinking into hell, because our Republicans are terrified of the press and the democrats.

I am disappointed that "The Hammer" backed down. If he would stick with it, and not listen to his own press, he would finally win over the critics.

Americans like nothing more than a tough guy in tough times!

I am always disappointed when a Republican is brow beaten into apologizing for telling the truth, I will never again have quite as much respect for DeLay after this, I will hence forth always visualize him and Lott doing needle point, baking cookies and teasing each other's hair.

I have never heard a Democrat apologize. I guess being a democrat means, "never having to say you are sorry." And why should they, we all know they are sorry.

I was scared when I saw the title that he was backpedaling, but this looks like a masterful non-apology apology. I like Delay more every day.

First search did not find "inartful" on dictionary.com .

However, I did find unartful...

Unartful

\Un*art"ful\, a. Lacking art or skill; artless.
