WE have the VRE all the way to Fredericksburg. It stops at Springfield and other locations which provide connection to the Metrorail system. It also "penetrates" DC, providing direct service to many high employment locations.

Anybody who travels I95 to work in the morning doesn't really like to commute in his own car ~ GUARANTEE.

BTW, good point to pass on to any Freepers who might end up on the Beltway ~ the RIGHT LANE is the fast lane in many segments. The LEFT LANE is never the fast lane in any segment. Trucks are banned from the leftlane on I495.

They should also take careful note of local standards around here and have a designated First Mate who uses the map to find the route. Do not try to drive and read a map.

But the Virgina Railway from Fredricksburg to Washington is not enough to cut down on the traffic in that area.
They should have built a light rail or subway from at least Quantico to Washington.

At a cost of billions.

BTW, the VRE cars are vastly superior to Metro cars.

My dad always told me, with the amount of money they spent on that middle lane they put in between Quantico and Washington, they could have put in a light rail system or subway for 700 million.
My dad told me ( this was back in the middle 90's ) that they spent about 500 to 700 million for all of the work between Quantico Va and Washington on I/95.

Yes..... I agree with you on that, last year, my brothers and I road on the subway cars ( better than they use to be ) but, they still have ( and the subway stations ) have that 70's dingy look.

Couldn't they have built a light rail system or subway on top of the middle HOV lanes that they put on I/95 from Quantico and Washington while they were building the express lane ?

Not so in Illinois, where the outermost left lane is to be used to pass only, just implemented recently after numerous complaints about drivers who feel its their job to regulate speed of traffic...

Now wait a minute. I am in the left lane on a road where the speed limit is 60. I am going at 65. A decent five over, if a person is coming up at 80, why do people call it trying to take the law into my own hands? I am going above the speed limit, even if everybody else breaks the law and goes ten over, it does not make it okay to break the law. If a guy is going twenty over behind me, I am not in any way obligated to move for him, just because he is doing what everybody else does and is breaking the law. Why not just follow the law and obey the speed limit? No road rage, no more of these stupid accidents, the same goes for idiots going at 10 under, if the man in this article was going ten over, and the guy behind him was doing 25 over, then although he acted like an idiot, he was in the right, and the SUV should have adjusted. There is nothing wrong with following the law, even if everybody else doesn't

Your right, but, when ever I see someone behind me coming up on me fast, I make every effort to let them pass, and then get back in that lane.
You right, EVERYONE should obey the speed limit, but we don't live in a perfect world.
One rule of thumb that most people go by is to " Go with the flow " even if its going 10 MPH over the speed limit.
I am not trying to argue with you, and your point is valid, but, to keep the peace, and prevent problems on the road, if someone comes up on you, at least let them pass, let the police stop them for speeding, or enforce the laws, not the driving public.

You're pretty much saying what I am. I only read one of your posts, I was more posting to what others on the thread had been saying. It only takes a thread like that, or for instance, a while ago there was a thread about a guy sentenced to 18 months in jail for beating up a puppy. There were the animal rights freakos who thought he should have the book thrown at him, and then there were people who thought, hey, God gave us animals. We shouldn't abuse them like this man did, he is a sick man, but 18 months is extreme. Personally I thought perhaps a month, then a heck of allot of community service. Then there were idiots hoping he'd get raped in jail or whatever.

Well... the PETA people have put the life of a animal ahead of the life of a human, their priorities are backwards.
I don't know what sentence that man should have gotten beating up that puppy, but, 18 months in prison is extreme, however, there is no excuse for him beating up or abusing that puppy.
Did the puppy survive ?
It's going to get so bad with the PETA wackos, that they will have the animal police arresting people downtown during work lunch hour watching the sidewalks for people stepping on ants.
Same thing about the Enviro Wackos, they want to save the environment at the cost of jobs and the economy.
I am all for saving the environment, protecting nature, recycle, but not at the cost of jobs and the economy, there is a balance.
GOD gave us this earth to use, but use it and be good stewards of the earth.
If the technology today can give us safe nuclear power plants, then ? why not use them ?
If the technology we have today can let us drill for oil in a safe way, then drill up at ANWR.

Sad to hear that....
Your right, they should have made him do community service.
On the environment issue, to save jobs, the economy, and the environment at the same time, build in brown zones, do you know what brown zones are ?
Brown zones are areas of land were it was previously built on, and was abandoned, land were it once had a house, gas station, a abandoned factory, and they tear down the old building, and build a new building on it.
Also, if they do build new construction, if the trees don't need to be cut down, then don't cut down the trees, or ? if you do cut the trees down, put more trees back then what was there before.
The problem with the enviro wackos is ? they always react with emotions, and never think things through.
I am sure if the enviro wackos and people who want to keep the economy going, I am sure there are ways to protect the economy and the environment at the same time.

Mostly they seem to be freaks that value animals over people. A PETA guy is on record, when asked if he was in a burning building and there was a dog, and there was a baby, which would he save. He basically said he'd take the dog.
