Aruba court lifts curbs on three suspects
Wednesday, September 14, 2005 Posted: 2345 GMT (0745 HKT)

Snip...ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) -- A court ruled Wednesday that three suspects in the disappearance of a U.S. teenager can remain free without conditions -- overturning an earlier decision that restricted their travel and required them to remain available to investigators.

Snip...Separately, the court also rejected a request by investigators to take another DNA sample from the brothers, citing insufficient evidence, said Ruud Oomen, an attorney for 21-year-old Deepak Kalpoe.

The lawyer said the brothers had no plans to leave Aruba and would cooperate with authorities.

"I just want to reiterate that they are innocent, and if this case is brought forward they will show the court that they are innocent," he said.

Van der Sloot's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.

See the 2nd part of what shecabal posted in 1777.

I guess I don't see the distinction here.

That article, the updated 2nd part, says ”They are totally free,” Kock said.

But then there's this: “Of course, it’s not what we were hoping for, but I’m convinced that this is not the end of the investigation,” de Sousa said.

I guess I'm no expert on Aruba law. They're totally free? Yet this is not the end of the investigation?

Maybe someone can explain.

I hope Beth can come out swinging, there doesn't seem to be much reason to hold back at this point.

Um - no charges are holding them. But the non investigators could in theory still be looking for evidence to bring charges later.

(Like here when DNA catches up to the criminal years later, they can be charged unless the statute of limitations runs out.) It's something along those lines with two years to actually bring charges!

Agreed hope she lets it all out!

Oh, I see what you're saying.

So they're still on the hot seat, as long as the crack Aruban investigators/polis/etc keep this from going in the cold case files.

Got it...;>)

Where's Columbo when you need him? Or Magnum? Or Rockford?

Any one of them would have "cracked" this case long before now.

(..."On crack"...hmmm, now you're talking. I wonder...)

Beth Twitty On Nancy Grace

"I knew there was corruption and cover-up involved. But I certainly didn`t know they were cowards either..."

Beth Twitty

"What would happen if Joran Van Der Sloot met the judge`s daughter one night, and she were to wind up missing the next day with all these sexual assaults committed against her? I mean, you know, people have to stop and think of the what if. And you know, when you stop and you put yourself or your daughter in Natalee`s shoes, then you begin thinking a little differently.... Joran & the k2s are off the hook permanently.

No longer considered suspects and are free as you & me.

Well, DJ, with that news do you think Beth will let us know what she has held in so as not to comprise the investigation. They were playing Natalee's family and us all along. I cannot imagine the pain she must feel - truly a double whammy!

Hey Che!

This isn't over.

Beth's appearance on Dr. Phil will be crucial to keeping this going. I hope that it will lead to other talk shows. I also think that America's Most Wanted should do a special show with reenactments of not only the night of the crime but also of the Abuan government's overt cover-up.

I don't think that we will know what happened to Natalee in the near future. We will learn of the whole story only after this cesspool of humanity has had 51% above board economy cut off.

Beth should schedule a memorial service for May 30, 2006 in Mountain Brook and at the same time Dave should be laying a wreath in the Caribbean off of a US warship at the twelve mile limit off of Aruba while a bagpipe plays Amazing Grace in the background.

The visuals of this plus the America's Most Wanted episode would stick in the American public's mind for a while and would certainly come up whenever anyone in the USA and maybe even Canada was making plans for a happy little vacation trip.

Like I've said before, let the bastards rot on the vine. I hear sand and cactus stew is very good if cooked properly.

One last note to you dipshi*ts in Aruba.

The American public did not tire of the MSM's coverage of your blatant attempt to cover up and not solve the crimes committed against Natalee Holloway for approx. 90 days. By contrast the American public is becoming tired of the wall to wall coverage of Katrina and her aftermath. It's only been two weeks, boys. I really think you idiots miscalculated. Of course who would've expected anything different from the pathetic part of the human race that you represent.

Watching you people on television is like watching a teenager trying to lie his way out of missing curfew.

Pathetic.

Oh I have faith that we'll see continued coverage and that at some point, what is being hidden will be exposed!

I agree, Malichi. Aruban government - expose it! Maybe fearless Geraldo is up for the task. Beth could certainly add what she knows. The spotlight needs to be turned up on Aruba. Once it was off for a few days - case closed for what its worth.

When I first read this I thought it was being planned. I overlooked 'should'. Great idea.

Justice dept appoints advocate general

"ORANJESTAD - On September 1st, Nico Jorg joined Aruba's Justice Department as the advocate general representing the Public Prosecution Service. This appointment is an important milestone in justice as this is the first time an advocate gereral participated in the attorney general's office on Aruba.

Jorg represents the public interest in cases before a Court of Appeal and is responsible in criminal cases for proving the offence and formulating the demand for sentence on behalf of the State.

Jorg is pictured walking with the Attorney General Croes Fernandes Pedra who will oversee Jorg's position."

I have seen this printed: "Aruba Attorney General Caren Janssen". Will the real Attorney General please stand up, Croes Fernandes Pedra or Karin/Caren Janssen?

And I wonder if this Nico Jorg advocate general could do some advocating in the Natalee case?

So, what does the FBI have to say about all this? Are they still pursuing leads or is this one shelved until a new lead emerges?

If prostitution was the answer to all men's desires

At the risk of sounding like your batty old aunt, I believe that the answer to man's desires is Jesus/Yeshua. I believe that the hunger of man is greater than the hunger for woman...and the hunger of women is certainly greater than that for a man.

And that hunger is only satisfied through Him.

"Naughty girl...you deserve a spanking!"

Yee-haw!

Looks are so deceiving, aren't they? Could it be that Anita wears the pants and that Paulus has dirty little secrets to 'compensate?'

Dark Skies, my dear, there cannot be a lawyer on the planet who does not understand the thrill of risk...they play it out in the court every day and thrive on it...

Too much TV and too many movies there, Spanky Girl. Most lawyers sit sipping on lukewarm coffee, poring over stale documents and reviewing old court cases and precedents. And even the litigators are only feeling risk vicariously through clients (who are taking the real risk). You may be correct, but to me, old Sweatin' Buckets looks very dull.

That said, I think he was trying to jumpstart a career representing Michael Posner and his Chicago Outfit. I remember somewhere upthread that he (Buckets) recently made a trip to Miami (and the distinct impression was that it had to do with porn films).
