Mary Cheneys pregnancy poses problems not just for her child, but also for all Americans. Her action repudiates traditional values and sets an appalling example for young people at a time when father absence is the most pressing social problem facing the nation. With 37 percent of American children born to fatherless families, Mary Cheney is contributing to a trend that is detrimental to all Americans who will live with the ramifications of millions of children whose anger and frustration at not knowing their father will be felt in the public schools and communities of our nation.
Mary Cheney is among that burgeoning group of adult women over age 20 that are driving the trend of women who dont want a man in the picture, but want to have a baby. These older women are pushing out-of-wedlock birth statistics higher and higher. At a time when teen births and teen abortions are declining dramatically, older women are having more un-wed births and more abortions, including repeat abortions (indicating that they are using abortion as birth control).
Well-educated, professional Mary Cheney is flying in the face of the accumulated wisdom of the top experts who agree that the very best family structure for a childs well-being is a married mom and dad family. Her child will have all the material advantages it will need, but it will still encounter the emotional devastation common to children without fathers.
One Georgia high school principal reported, We have too many young men and women from single-mother families that dont have the role models at home to teach them how to deal with adversity and handle responsibility. Theyve seen their mom work 60 hours a week just to put food on the table; they end up fending for themselves.
When fatherless children get to be teens, the girls tend to start looking for love in all the wrong places and the boys tend to find as their role model the bad-boy celebrities of MTV, NFL and NBA.
As they grow older, fatherless children tend to have trouble dealing with male authority figures. Too often children in single-mother households end up angry at their absent fathers and resentful of the mother who has had to be a father figure, too. Typically, the boys who have a love-hate relationship with their mother end up hating all women. Numerous of them look for vulnerable women where they can act out their anger and be in control.
Mary Cheneys action sets an example that is detrimental for mothers with less financial resources who will start down an irrevocable path into poverty that tends to be generational children in households without a father tend to themselves have unwed births later in life. Experts from both the left and the right cite a disastrous litany of negative outcomes that are predictable when a child grows up in a fatherless family. Such children tend to get involved in drugs, alcohol abuse, and delinquency; they tend to drop out of school and have teen pregnancies. An assistant principal in a Junior High School said that many of the behavioral problems that teachers face in the classroom stem from households without a fathers influence.
Marys pregnancy is an in-your-face action countering the Bush Administrations pro-family, pro-marriage and pro-life policies. She continues to repudiate the work to which her father has devoted his life. Mary has repeatedly said that studies show that children only need a loving home. Her statement is incomplete because the experts agree that for the well-being of children, they desperately need a married father and a mother.
All those people who talk about doing what is best for our children need to get back to the basics: children need a married mom and dad. Children can do without a lot of the trimmings of childhood, but nothing can replace a home where the mother and dad love each other enough to commit for a lifetime and are absolutely crazy about their kids enough to be willing to sacrifice their own needs to see that their children get the very best.
So I take it you won't be contributing to a baby shower present. :)
Yes, I have read it (very different from the movies, isn't it?). The "monster" could quote philosophy and the classics better than most people today could, and he certainly wasn't homosexual.
This abuse of technology is a perversion of natural law.
I take it, then, that you are opposed to all forms of artificial insemination (if in fact that's what they did in this case, which has not been established)?
you won't be contributing to a baby shower present. :)
Absolutely! What the "this won't affect you" crowd doesn't understand is that there are always collective implications for people's actions that effect others. This will further destroy the traditional family and we will soon resemble Europe. Self-centered narcissistic brats who aren't having children at all because there aren't any standards left.
Dick Cheney is an outstanding Grandfather to his grand kids. If he needs to stand in as a Father figure for this child, he surely will. And Lynn is an outstanding Grandmother...she'll make sure this child's needs are met completely.
>>and he certainly wasn't homosexual.
But it certainly was un-natural, wasn't it?
The end result of obsession that led to abomination and the perversion of nature.
>>you are opposed to all forms of artificial insemination
Nope just where it's a clear perversion of nature.
Honestly, I wasn't too surprised. I'm more surprised that a Dem didn't do it first.
GWB isn't a Conservative Republican....
Of course, I could have been really, really, really, outstandingly near-death drunk.
No one posting here knows whether this child was conceived via artificial insemination or the old fashioned way. If the child was conceived the old fashioned way, no one on this board knows whether the father will be involved in the child's life or not.
If the child was conceived via artificial insemination, no one here still knows whether the donor will be involved in the child's life or not either.
I'm sure no one here thinks that a woman is automatically doing her child harm if the natural father was killed defending our freedom in Iraq and the widow and mother chose not to remarry.
Ms. Cheney isn't going affect too much because her pregnancy is the RESULT of society that accepts every type of immorality that you can imagine. The damage has already been done.
Thank you to all the people who stood by and watched society degrade itself because you wanted to turn the blinders on and think that things would get better on their own without you stepping in and saying it was wrong.
How soon we forget:
Bush appoints gay man to head AIDS office
April 9, 2001
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush has appointed an openly gay Republican to lead his Office of National AIDS Policy, the White House announced Monday.
White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer suggested that Scott Evertz's sexual orientation was not an issue for Bush.
"The president picks the best people for their jobs, regardless of what their backgrounds may or may not be, and that is why he has chosen Scott," Fleischer said. "The president respects him, knows that he is a leader in the community that is fighting AIDS, and he will be welcome at this White House."
Evertz, 38, is a fund-raising executive with a faith-based senior citizens program in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Evertz will become the first gay person to lead the office, which President Clinton formed in 1994.
Fleischer said the office would have "an increased focus on international components" because of the spread of AIDS around the world.
He said Evertz's office would coordinate policy with the departments of State, Health and Human Services, and the White House Domestic Policy Council. A full-time representative from the departments is expected to work in the AIDS policy office.
Fleischer demurred when asked whether Bush wanted to fight the stigma of homosexuality.
"I think what's important is to allow the office to develop and to come up with as many ideas as they can to fight what has been just a growing international problem that's wreaking terrible, terrible problems in many communities across our country and around the world," he said.
Earlier, an official told CNN that the Bush budget provides an increase in AIDS/HIV funding through the HHS department. It also boosts funding for AIDS/HIV at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by $23 million.
Evertz is the Wisconsin president of the Log Cabin Republicans, the most influential gay and lesbian Republican organization in the country. Bush met with Evertz and other Log Cabin Republicans in Austin last April, a move that drew attention because the GOP's 1996 presidential nominee, Bob Dole, refused to meet with them and also returned campaign donations.
The Austin meeting, however, occurred after the primary fight with Sen. John McCain of Arizona was over. Bush declined to meet with the Log Cabin Republicans during the primaries.
A White House official said Evertz will lead an expanded effort to confront AIDS at home and abroad.
On NBC's "Meet the Press," Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday the White House agrees with the Clinton administration's conclusion that the global spread of AIDS has become a national security issue.
"It is an area of great concern," Cheney said.
Come on now, you don't have to hide your hate like that.
I've since decided that this thread is simply too ugly for me to abide.
Mary Cheney's pregnancy is none of our business. She doesn't stick her nose in the newspaper's business, so what's their problem? She's pregnant, and that's that! Go and report on something that will actually help...
