Lincolnís War
Tenth Amendment Center ^ | May 04, 2009 | Judge Andrew P. Napolitano

Posted on 05/06/2009 10:35:26 AM PDT by cowboyway

One of the greatest misconceptions of American history is that the Civil War was fought over slavery. Those who subscribe to this belief see President Abraham Lincoln as the benevolent leader who made unimaginable sacrifices in human blood to wipe out America’s greatest sin. While the human sacrifice is indisputable and the sin was monumental, the war’s purpose was not to free blacks from the shackles of bondage. Rather, the Civil War was fought with one purpose in mind: To preserve the Union at all costs. And, to put it in Lincoln’s terms, with no ifs, ands, or buts. You’d better agree with the president, or else.

None of them, of course, since I wouldn't have anything to do with the confederate cause and that seems to be a prerequisite.

But what do you suppose they...

Along with white and blue, definitely. But red alone with that rag in the background? Not a chance.

What other interesting hobbies do you pursue in your basement?

You mean other than remind you guys of your Southern heritage? Lots. Come on, I'll bet those guys in the pictures I posted would love to join your new confederacy, central_va. Sounds like their kind of place.

Well, let me remind you what the point the Judge was making that you have unsuccessfully tried to contend with you weak electoral college argument: Lincoln was NOT a popular president throughout the US in 1860.

Well duh! Any president running on a platform of ending the expansion of slavery would not be popular in at least 11 Southern states.

Once again you are caught telling a lie.

Not by you. Not to date.

For some that seems to be anti-Klan, you sure can find a lot of pictures of them.

As far as the flag they choose to claim, be it the American of Confederate, I wish they'd abandon both - their positions are not those of either government nor their soldiers. Personally I think those that wear the pointed hats do so because they have pointed heads.

They also claim the Cross of Christ, but I'll never abandon my Christianity nor Bible because some insane lunatics claim it as well. Many people claim positions and objects as a shield / barrier to their true beliefs.

Just as courts and politicians can wield barriers, and by twisting words distort the meanings of their words, and the words of our ancestors, even those that framed our government and demanded that our Constitution be written to prevent such distortions.

I believe the vast majority of soldiers - Union, Southern and Native American - were and are honourable men, and deserve our gratitude and praise. Whether we believe in their cause, many gave the ultimate sacrifice. Long should we remember their sacrifice.

Just as we should remember those that serve and sacrifice today, or did so in Vietnam, Korea or countless other shores. Politicians can lie and ameliorate their positions, historians can whitewash the truths, courts can mitigate their culpability, but it for the people to honour their dead and their memories.

I have no doubts that the disgust you express for the Klan is heartfelt and sincere because while we agree on virtually nothing, I believe you are a man of integrity and of honor. Unfortunately, some of your compatriots do not hold themselves to your same standard.

Actually, the drive to go from tolerance, my personal position, to acceptance of Homosexuality, the official statist Federal position, is even more evidence that “we need to go”, (like we need anymore). Instead of attacking the Federalist, just put it in the column labeled “More Reasons to secede from this abysmal Union” and go on.

Not to defend the "pointy heads" but why the U.S. flag?

There is a yellow flag with a stripe on it. Curious. Over analyzing here....

The only analysis necessary is that they don't seem to be made up of God's brightest creatures, do they?

True story. When my daughter was about 6 she had a birthday party sleepover. As kids do, they tried to freak each other out and one of the girls entertained the rest with scary stories of "the coneheads". The next morning when they told me about it I was a little puzzled because I assumed they were talking about that Dan Akroyd movie, a take-off of his Saturday Night Live skits which didn't strike me as particularly scary. But the girl in question set me straight when she told me she was talking about the KKK. She had lived in Mississippi not far from some local chapter and had apparently seen the group in full regalia from time to time and it had scared the daylights out of her. So when it came time for scary stories, she knew just what to pick.

You have any idea what it's like intercepting parents as they come to pick their kids up and tell them that if their daughter mentions anything about the Klan then it's because of Kelly's ghost stories and not because I was trying to recruit her?

39%. That is statistical proof that he wasn't this overwhelmingly popular 'saviour' that you revisionist yankees have portrayed him to be.

From post #220: cowboyway - "The 1980 election was as much about getting rid of Carter as the 2000 election was of purging the Clinton's. The 1984 election was a true mandate. "

From post #294: Non-Sequitur - "But according to you the '84 election was a real squeaker. "

Of course, we all know that you can no more admit to your lies and deceit than you could shut up. You've been caught in numerous lies over the years but you're simply not man enough to admit. Most of the time you just tuck tail and run. But, that is the yankee way.................
