Good-bye [if I can't post my 9/11 troofer garbage to FR, I'm leaving]

Good-bye.

A few months ago, I posted some information on bank financial strength. The post was a complex table and it took me sometime to make the post. Not long after, I forget but perhaps 10 or 20 minutes, the post disappeared. Figuring I made a mistake, I posted it again. This time I was pretty sure I posted it correctly. It disappeared within a few minutes. To verify that this was what was happening, I posted a third time. It again disappeared immediately.

I never received any feedback from FreeRepublic on this matter.

It annoyed me, but since I have always trusted FR, and since I have so far as I know maintained a sterling reputation here as a well behaved citizen for the eight or ten years I've been here, I shook my head in confusion and forgot that incident.

Just tonight I posted a more controversial post involving 9/11. It disappeared within minutes (after I had verified that the post succeeded).

Again, no notice public or private, before or after the fact. Just poof.

Good-bye.

I will cancel future monthly FR donations and leave. I cannot support a political discussion and news site which makes seriously intended posts by long standing contributors of good standing just disappear without notice, public or private, before or after.

The SanityIsland.us site, with some Daily Dose images, will remain around likely for one year, then go away without further notice. I may be reached via email at pj@usa.net (yes, I have excellent spam filters.)

Sites have a right to do as they please, but also a responsibility to stand up for the actions they take, at least involving participants acting in good faith. FR apparently is failing to honor this responsibility.

I would ask that in the future removals of posts made in good faith by members in good standing at least be recognized in private messages to the poster after the fact, stating the approximate cause for removal. Even a 'boilerplate' explanation would be better than nothing.

I wish this fine community and the good people here well. This nation is in dire need of honest reporting and discussion.

That's too bad. Texas is so full of...uh...Texans.

That's what makes it so great! :-)

Keep the Faith. Good night to you, and to all of the insomniacs, graveyard shift, and overseas Freepers. And remember this...

‘Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.’

I have moved to Texas.

That seals it then, 'six degrees of separation' an all that, I have a personal friend who lives in Houston (whom I haven't seen in 5 years), so now we have 'some' connection, I'd be 'dishonoured' if you left FR . . .there!

(I bet ThePythonicCow's ping list is blazing, must feel like being Obama . . or something)

I'm not sure where "here" is since you don't fly a state flag (embarrassed?), but I'm very glad I'm not "there."

I am not currently in my home Lone Star State, but feel very welcomed where I am for now. :-)

If you want to be a real Texan buy a pink tutu and show up at the nearest roadhouse on Saturday night. Trust me, it's a secret initiation and everyone will understand.

The reason for the pull was not my primary objection. My objection was that such pulls are routinely done without notice visible to the poster. All links to the article just disappear.

My reaction to the reason for the pull is different. As my political positions change over time, they will sooner or later wander away from positions supported by FR, and hence I would (and have been already, actually) wander off to other sites more frequently. But that's not cause for slamming the door on the way out. Just a change of interests or viewpoints.

No. Closer to a Ron Paul + 9/11 Truther, who would repeal the 16th and 17th ammendments, repeal 80% of the federal laws, shut down the IRS and the FED, and close down 2/3's of the government offices in Washington. We're in deeper yogurt than picking sides, red or blue, can resolve.

I had a post pulled once (a reply post, not a thread-starter) which contained a link to a banned site (left wing, as I recall). The page I linked to contained a repost of an article from a legitimate newspaper’s site which was no longer available at the original location. I didn’t want to copy the text of the article (for the obvious reason), so I linked.

My reason for posting it was to highlight a glaring example of Obama’s racial hypocrisy, always a popular subject here.

The mod was good enough to ping me with a reason, and it was simply that any link to the banned site was unwelcome, even if the content at the linked page was legitimate and relevant.

I accepted that, and moved on.

The lesson here is that the mods consider the ENTIRE content of a site to be the determining factor in whether ANY content of the site can be posted.

I totally agree with you, though, that they should notify the thread originator when a thread is pulled, if for no other reason than common courtesy.

"But you shoulda told me. You can be blunt, you can do so after the fact, without further discussion or recourse. Just a private message saying "pulled - garbage" would have been sufficient."

As I understand it, the moderators on this site are volunteers, meaning they give of their own personal time to help out here.

While it would be nice for them to provide an explanation for every action they take in moderating, after moderating a forum myself, I can tell you that explaining every deletion is impossible. Moderators have lives, too, and if they get into a discussion with every poster about the post they moderated (which is bound to happen -- because usually people aren't satisfied with the first explanation, or even the tenth), they won't get much else done.

I have a hunch if you leave you'll regret it. The point you are trying to make will be forgotten by most by tomorrow, and within a few weeks or months only a handful if that will consciously still miss you. You, on the other hand, will miss FR continuously. It's obviously been a big part of your life, and I promise you the hole left in your life will be much bigger than the hole left here by your leaving.
