What's embarrassing is when they get egged on by others who should know better.
Shades of Robo Cop II.
If you haven’t seen it lately, view it — the movies are always one step ahead of reality.
New Detroit City — here we come!
I spent a lot of time in the North East Kingdom in Vermont, a very poor area, when I was a kid...People surrived and in some cases prospered
I, too, grew up in the far Northeastern reaches of the US ...in the backwoods of Northern Maine. My family was poor for most of my childhood, but I had no idea because everyone else was in the same boat that we were in.
Dad went back to school, and eventually extricated himself out of the hole. It took years of education, and years more of extremely hard work. Mom and Dad are now reaping the benefits of that labor in retirement, and I'm reaping the benefits of what I learned by watching them.
It's worth noting that when Mom and Dad sold their house and moved South (tired of the winters) they needed to call in a locksmith, because we couldn't find a key to the house.
This isn't a story from the halcyon days of the 40s and 50s...Mom and Dad sold their place about 15 years ago.
My point, and one that seems to be lost to most on this thread except you, is that poverty never equates to laziness and thievery. Plenty of poor people can get up in the morning and look for opportunity, rather than a handout.
IMHO, the people queuing up for a chance at a handout - for the most part - are choosing the latter rather than the former.
I taught reading/writing/computers at a Chrysler plant near Detroit. I had many fine and memorable students but one student was a janitor-and probably a good one, was just reading at a basic level but wanted to be able to vote and fill out his ballot. He lived in Detorit and told me one day that if you go into a store, grab a bag of chips and finish that bag before you get to the cash register, you do not have to pay for that bag of eaten chips. I was appalled and asked him why he thought that was fair to the business man and did he think that if others had that attitude doesn’t that explain why all the grocery stores in the city had moved out. People only had party stores to shop at at that time. He just shrugged. This man was a janitor 15 years ago was making $110,000 a year then-he always proudly showed me his pay stubs. I have many more stories but they all turn my stomach.
That was a problem where I grew up. Big paper mills, hiring the local kids right out of HS (or HS dropouts).
Hard to get a kid to understand that it's not a good idea to skip school and make 35-40K a year (this was 20 years ago, likely is more now).
Then the mill closes, and they've got nothing to fall back on.
These people honestly believed they were going to get a check from Obama.
you could start a buffett that serves nothing but dogshit and if it was free, you’d have lines like these daily. so goes free health care.
That's because Obama isn't racist. He lies to everybody, minority races included.
I don’t see how blaming the people in Detroit who ‘thought’ they were getting obama-bucks helps any.
Those people may soon become our ‘allies’ , as they find out they are getting ‘scammed’ by team obama/rahm/pelosi/reid etc.
If we blame ‘blacks’, or ‘fat people’, or ‘immigrants’ we are just playing into the Democratic Parties game. And we will lose that way. They smile when they see citizens turning on each other, instead of turning on those responsible for this mess.
I don’t think you have a clue as to the nature of the people lined up in Detroit for obama-bucks nor where their loyalties lie and will always lie.
As for ‘turning’ on the people lined up in Detroit, they aren’t, never were and never will be on our side. If they were, they never would have turned the city of Detroit into a cesspool in the first place.
So, we should just wall off Detroit, then nuke it?
How old are you?
Why don’t you ask me how long I have been a member of FR?
Because I don’t care.
Another stimulous help from Mighty Mouse in the WH gone sour.
Dictators have no friends. Only sacrifices.
