Walmart ruining holidays for workers
vanity | November 13, 2011 | Linda Martine

Posted on 11/13/2011 11:06:23 AM PST by eccentric

Around the country, night workers at Walmart stores are being told to come in five hours early ON Thanksgiving. After having work until 7am that morning, they must get whatever sleep they can and then reutrn to work at 5pm for a 12 hour shift. How much time does this leave for them to spend the holiday with their family?

Walmart wants to call their employees associates. No, they are just workers.

I guess Wall-Mart employees dpnt deserve Thanksgiving according to most people here.

"Deserve Thanksgiving?" Do they deserve a pony, too?

How about a paycheck for work performed?

I’m not saying that Walmart cares about customers per se, but if it wants to make money, it’s gotta have the requisite goods on the shelf.

If it’s selling twice what it usually does on a particular day, it’s gotta have the staff to do that.

Just how, by a few posts do you know how I interact with my customers?
I have no clue OTHER than your bitter, angry, complaining posts.
I treat them with the same respect I would expect when checking out. It is not the customers fault they are unhappy, it’s the companys.
Walmart makes their customers UNHAPPY? Wow, what power!
I have gotten to know many of the customers that come to my lane and they are great people and when they complain it makes me feel bad because there is nothing I can do. I enjoy their company. Don’t judge my work ethic or my performance unless you have seen how I do my job. That is unfair.
You need to find a new line of work. You seem incapable of making a difference at Walmart. Have you tried getting another job? One with better benefits, higher wages, and happier customers?

Anyone ever tell ya there are now *more* unionized Government employees in the U.S. than in the private sector?

How many "unionized Government employees" would anyone find in the private sector?

Gezzz...

Not the point slick. Ya keep babbling about unions when China Mart is not even unionized. The comment was made because there are now more Government unionized employees than in the private sector, yet not a peep about that from you...

I guess Wall-Mart employees dpnt deserve Thanksgiving according to most people here. For the record, I agree with you.

People who accept employment opportunities should know full well what their employer's requirements are....In the mega-retail business, It's a given that you will most likely be required to work on the major holidays where most of their retail sales are generated..

She has since found a good job but it was very discouraging for her ...
Because she found a job? Did she get her CPA? There is a big demand for decent CPA's right now.

Everything the NLRB is doing with Boeing it is doing under existing statutory authority.

A second-term Obama won’t need one Congressional vote for the NLRB to dismantle the big box retailers’ unionization defenses, nor can any Congressional vote block the NRLB as long as Republican majorities are not veto proof.

Work for the government or a bank and then you can have all major holidays off.

Think about your posts to me the next time you complain about your job, but I guess you never complain do you? Do you ever say a patient was rude or nasty? Do your legs and feet hurt from standing on them for hours? Do you ever get angry at a Dr for anyreason. I have been vocal on this thread because it was about Walmart. Maybe soon they will have one about how some hospitals are treating employees. Usually wage related. I will be watching for your posts.

>>Just where did I say in any of my posts that I was different than anyone else? I didn’t.<<

Right here...

“27 registers and only 8 covered by cashiers with long lines full of angry impatient customers. I greet all with a smile and get angry retorts and cursed at because they’ve had to wait because so few registers are open. Floor associates get the same because there are so few associates to cover the floor of a Superstore. Walmart knows one cashier will do the job of four because they know noone else is hiring so whatever abuse they need to heap upon people will be accepted because we have nowhere else to go.

I have had people walk-up to me and say they feel sorry for us because they see what we are going thru. I tell them its my job and the only one I have at the moment.

I have anywhere from 180 to 460 customers a day on my egister. I take abuse from customers and continue to do my job. I have never complained when my shift is changed and I am never late to my job. Its a shame that when the truth is told all some can do is attack and call names. I just bet you would be one of the snotty ones I would smile at and tell to have a good day.”

This is posted to make you look exceptional. There are enough ‘I’ sentences to rival Barack Obama. Every one of us who work take abuse, you are no different than anyone else.

Buy a clue. The attacks on FReepers included one poster who claim that Walmart will GET a union because of their "terrible" working conditions. Sorry that you failed to follow the rather simple English language thread. Good luck on that job search.

I think they should be GLAD they have a job and THANKFUL that Walmart hired them if things are that tough there. I have had jobs I hated and just toughed up until I was able to do something different. It is called being an adult. If you aren’t qualified for anything else you should be really greatful to have any job, and do what you can to make yourself more employable.

They could care less about customers. All they have to do is get cheap Communist Chinese products on the shelves, which they can mark up 10 times what it cost to produce it.

Those people are doing what you should have done, leaving the company.

Instead you stay, complaining, and bringing unhappiness to your fellow employees and to the customers.

If you’re going to stay, stop complaining and pretend you’re happy about your job instead of being resigned to it.

You’ll find life is better that way.

I have had enough of being attacked on this thread for voicing my opinion. I thought people would like to know the truth. I didn’t know letting people know how employees are treated at walmart would cause such a hooplah. I won’t make the same mistake again I can assure you.

How sad. You whine and bitch and then stay right where you are. Go get another job. Find a better employer. Start your own grocery store if you want. FREEDOM. Try it. Freedom works. Whining does not.

All the best to her.

With a PhD I’d end up in Walmart too. I’m fifty.

Right. That is how they sell. Do tell, what line of work are you in?
