Has ANYONE ever been imprisoned for smoking pot?
09/21/02 | Libloather

Posted on 09/21/2002 5:49:50 PM PDT by Libloather

Liberteens come, and Liberteens go. But they seem to have an awful time with their own (and biggest - maybe only) issue - pot.

As far as anyone can tell, not ONE person has been placed behind bars for smoking pot. But the Liberteens paint an entirely different picture. They claim that HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS are behind bars for smoking.

Can anyone provide any proof either way?

"Only 1.3% of federal prisoners are in prison for drug possession charges (average pot possession is 105 pounds)"

Misdemeanors
Class A Fine not to exceed $4,000 and/or 1 year or less
Class B Fine not to exceed $2,000 and/or 180 days or less
Class C Fine not to exceed $500

You do not go to prison for misdemeanor offences in Texas. All Pot possession offences in Texas are misdemeanors. So you may want to check your sources a bit closer.

Who claimed anyone was sentenced for just smoking?

It seems it would be very hard to smoke it without possessing it...but I guess Libloather's figured out a way.

It reminds me of one of my college professors in the early 70's when MOST classes allowed you to smoke.

He said. "Sure you can smoke....as long as you don't exhale".

His remark was clever and funny...
I haven't figured out what Libloather is.

Harry Anslinger especially targeted black musician users for

If I recall correctly, on of Anslingers strongest arguments for outlawing pot back in '37 was that it was used primarily by "negroes and jazz musicians".

Times have changed.

"Despite lengthy terms on paper, the average federal drug possessor imprisoned served only 8 months."

"Those convicted of a federal drug possession offence were less likely to be incarcerated than those convicted of liquor law or motor carrier regulatory violations."

Cigarettes are an entirely different addiction.

Much harder to quit. Just as likely to kill you or otherwise ruin your life (just in different ways).
