Part the problem was the decision of the media and UT in particular not to post anymore of the docs because they contain things that could be potentially embarrassing to the Van Dams. Like what? The truth?

Bejarano To Accept Bush Appointment Bush To Nominate Chief For Top Marshal Post
NBC San Diego POSTED: 8:45 a.m. PST March 11, 2003
UPDATED: 3:41 p.m. PST March 11, 2003
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Police Chief David Bejarano said Tuesday that he is the top choice to become Southern California's top federal lawman, and he said he will take the job if it is formally offered to him.
President George W. Bush plans to nominate Bejarano Friday as the U.S. marshal for the state's Southern District, which covers San Diego and Imperial counties. The four-year term is subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
Bejarano, 46, has been chief in San Diego since April 1999. The U.S. Marshals Service is the enforcement agency for the federal court system.
Bejarano, the first Latino to head the 2,100-officer San Diego Police Department, served in the Marines and has a degree in business administration from National University. He is married and has three children.

This just gets weirder all the time. What's next?
And here's a little extra for those of you who haven't seen it. It's an article on the Laci Peterson website about Bill Garcia. It's long but worth the read.

Well, one of them has questions. It's not illegal to have questions. Others actually aren't attacking the one that has questions. Damn, just damn and the sky is falling.

Book: Calif vs westerfield
click
warning..the article and discussion about the "wish-boning technique" is not for the faint at heart
"Before we talked about his newest book, I was interested to hear what Mr. Vachss had to say about California vs. Westerfield. Asked about David Westerfield's pornography cache, Mr. Vachss said, "It was child torture pornography. Films, tapes, pictures of children being sexually tortured. I don't care how far you stretch Lolita, it doesn't get down to cattle prods. "

A Look At David Westerfield's Prison Life
San Quentin Lonely, Potentially Violent
POSTED: 2:56 p.m. PST February 12, 2003
UPDATED: 6:06 p.m. PST February 12, 2003
SAN DIEGO -- Recently 10News got a chance to see the living conditions of convicted killer David Westerfield.
Westerfield was sentenced to death for kidnapping and murdering his 7- year-old neighbor, Danielle van Dam. He now calls San Quentin Prison's death row home. Television news crews haven't been allowed in San Quentin for more than 30 years. Officials Tuesday, however, invited a small, select group of reporters from across the state in, and 10News' Steve Fiorina was the only San Diego reporter among them.
Fiorina found that the image one might have of prison life is skewed by Hollywood. The reality is, prison life is no life at all --it's an existence. Privacy and dignity are stripped away the minute a prisoner passes through the gates of San Quentin. Condemned inmates face a dark future and a stark present. Enclosed by high walls topped with razor-wire and patrolled by heavily-armed guards in surveillance towers and points on the grounds, the men of San Quentin are kept in close quarters and watched hawkishly. "We have six exercise yards, each with three gunmen above us," guard Lt. Don Graham said. He pointed to a sort of cannon in one of the towers: "It shoots water and pepper spray -- to quell certain situations," Graham said. Those "certain situations" are rare, Graham said. The men usually pass the time working out, shooting hoops, and playing cards. Westerfield -- a resident of East Block, Third Tier -- has yet to venture into the sunshine, however. The self-proclaimed outdoorsman has secluded himself inside a cell since he was brought to San Quentin last Sunday. Westerfield's cell is small, with barely enough room to take three steps, Fiorina reported. There's a mattress on a slab, a toilet, a sink, and a Bible that was provided by the prison. "He could go out to the yard once a day, from 7 a.m. until 12:30 (p.m.), but does not," San Quentin spokesman Vernell Crittendon said. Crittendon admitted that it is likely Westerfield is choosing to keep to himself for his own safety. Prisons are somewhat notorious for the way child molesters and child killers are brutalized by fellow inmates, and Westerfield's face is easily recognized after his sensational televised trial. "The inmate population is very sensitive to those who do harm to children, and they often harbor ill feelings toward them," Crittendon said. He was quick to add, however, that there's been no known threat against Westerfield. He may eventually try to join the general condemned population in the exercise yard, or he could be included with the couple dozen inmates who've been designated as having known enemies. San Quentin warden Jeanne Woodford said that if that were the case, Westerfield would spend the rest of his life alone, occasionally getting the chance to walk by himself in the prison yard.

From your link:
"...He would download from the Internet to CDs, so he had his own library. That's very different from 'Oh, I clicked on a Website ... I didn't know what was there.' There's a lot of ignorance about the case, including the fact that, because he didn't have a record, therefore this was his first offense. I don't think it was a brilliantly tried case, but fortunately, thanks to some splattering DNA, it didn't have to be."

Remember how we tried to communicate this fact time and again at trial, but some would have none of it and would get all upset and indignant when it was pointed out to them. I actually got flamed and told I was wrong. Imagine!
What a sick monster, yet I see he still has some getting out their kleenex and weeping over him.

Well, it's certainly SPUN out of control. Where did I say catfight? Some people do need to be reeled in though.
I noticed also that there are a number of "removed by moderator" messages. I wish all those (and you know who those are) would quit saying that the Westerfield threads are the only ones where there was flaming going on. Some of those folks must not read much.

So the child porno tapes were released and Mr. Vachss (the author quoted above) had full access to them? Gee I missed that. Are these illegal tapes available to the general public?
What a crock! Yet he's quoted as if he knows what he's talking about.
To: ~Kim4VRWC's~; The Other Harry
Thanks for the ping, Kim. Like The Other Harry, I can't believe people are still hashing over this case. Harry calls it "interesting," I'd call it something else.
