Pagan band demands "quiet area for fornication"

Pagan band demands 'quiet area for sex'

A pagan rock band is demanding a "quiet area for fornication" during a summer solstice celebration in Birmingham.

The event, billed as a family fun day out, has been condemned by the Church of England, reports the Birmingham Evening Mail.

Headliners Inkubus Sukkubus demanded the "fornicatorium" at the event, which is being held to mark the longest day of the year.

Managers at the Custard Factory venue confirmed a quiet area would be provided for the group, fronted by female vocalist Candia.

A spokesman said: "They said they needed a quiet fornicatorium. They say it is a fertility rite. The singer goes into a trance-like state. We don't quite know what will happen once the frenzied activity begins."

Druids from across the country will descend on the Custard Factory for the celebration, which is billed as a perfect day out for the whole family, on Saturday.

Rhiannon Biddulph, of the UK Pagan Association, said: "There are certain festivals were we celebrate the creation of life where you have to have sex. Most pagans have a fairly relaxed attitude to sex."

But a spokesman for the Church of England in Birmingham said: "It seems the Druids have overdosed on the magic mushrooms when arranging this event. It beggars belief that this kind of tackiness and tawdriness is being promoted as a cultural family event."

I don't think she had much choice in the matter....

I do not think she desired it either, at least not at first. But that creepiness (which is no refection on G_d, only on man's sin nature) is used to somehow discredit or call into question the Bible and/or G_d.

Here on this thread we actually saw some use the story to shore up the idea that fornication is 'okay' Biblically.

I am sorry. I fail to see where this relates to having a fornicatorium or whatever it is called. We are talking about Summer Solstice, fertility rites, and pagan rituals. It is not Christianity, nor is it Islam, or Judaism.

My original post on this forum was tongue in cheek, but seriously, the Christian church has no fertility rites, that I am aware of. In addition, while fornication may be a sin in the eye of a Christian, it clearly is not sinful to these people in the sense that it is going to be performed (in the guise of) during a religious festival.

I am not up on my British law, but last I checked, here in the states, we do have freedom of religion. While I do not necessarily condone what a person believes, it is not my job to condemn for what is believed or how people practice their faith. Period. (I leave that to the authorities :)

Fair enough.....

I see the Bible (now) like a box full of broken glass and diamonds. Some diamonds tossed out for for glass. Easier to say "it is all perfect" than to dig through and sort the diamonds from the glass. Might get your fingers bloody.

My (mental) salvation as a child came with the parable of the talents (use your brain). From then on, 'faith and gods will' became the 'I am afraid to question' answer.

So, anyhow, bottom line, it is a creepy (broken glass) story.....

"They said they needed a quiet fornicatorium".

Well, I just typed that word into Merriam Websters online dictionary and that isn't a word.Regardless, about her going into a trance-like state, well, that's bound to occur when one is in tune with their lovers' mind and body.Who needs Hallucinogenics?

I am not sure what you are talking about.

I responded to the posts 27 and 35 to begin my adventure.
Both dealing with Christians and Sexual sin, both distorting the Word of G_d.

Dead Corpse then tries to bait me in #157.

Sorry. I did not mean to single you out specifically. I was looking at what you and the others were posting, and also trying to find where on earth it all relates to the thread.

That is your position. Okay. I am not going to burn you until you renounce your ways. ;~)

That does not make you right or me wrong.

It only means that one of us has not dug for the true meaning.

I am not afraid to question, I can't keep membership in one church for more that a few months.

Instead of the gap being me not questioning, is it possible that you just gave up trying to understand?

Hey!
You hit the nail on the head!

I quit, after about 40+ years...I just threw up my hands and said "ya know sumthin' Maude, maybe this isn't the place fer ya!" (no my name ain't Maude, but it sounds good in a story)....

Will I find my way back...dunno...
Whomever does find her way back will be there because she believes, not because she is afraid not too....

Christianity is a wonderful, fabulous place for some people, especially for those raising children...
For those who play well with others and in groups...
but for some people, it isn't a good fit.

Ok, here's a question or statement.. not sure how it'll end yet. You find people you don't like representing Christians and excuse them as "bad examples" that don't represent the rest accurately. So when you find Pagans you don't like, why assume they represent all other pagans rather than being a few "bad examples" that do not represent the rest?

I don't judge paganism entirely by its adherents. It's animistic belief system is enough to dismiss it. Dancing around trees and fires naked, however, does tend to make one wonder about the sanity of the adherents.

So if i judged all Christians based on the snake handlers then you would be OK with that even though all Christians aren't snake handlers (and all pagans don't dance naked around trees and fires)?

We cannot discuss this subject as it interacts with our lives and draws questions of different faiths? A thread is never going to stay pure to it's originality, it involves people and thus is organic. I think that is what makes Free Republic great. You want it sterilized?

As for condemning others, I specifically said I could care less what the idiots of the land do. They are like feeder fish to me. I have my opinion and they have theirs. You wish to sanitize a discussion? To make sure we follow a PC code?

We are forming our opinion of paganism entirely by its own existence, not its participants.

I believe the words were "It's animistic belief system is enough to dismiss it.". You want to imply some judgment based upon one or two people, yet we discount the entirety of the religion based upon Message and Intent.

The other side brings up Jim and Pat and you turn around an imply that we are the ones making the individualization of a religion.

So your post # 263 (that honeygrl likes so much) means what? I did not see a question? Though I saw a thinly veiled accusation.

What was your point? If you were "trying to find where on earth it all relates to the thread." why not ask?

Pathetic, son. Pathetic. You made an assertion that God ordered women "ripped up". I asked for proof. You not only didn't offer proof, you horrifically and very amateurishly tried to paraphrase scripture through the lens of your personal beliefs (or non beliefs). As a debater, you stink, dude.

So come on...........prove your point. Show me, verbatim without your oh-so-colorful bulls**t commentary, where God ordered women to be "ripped up".

I'll save you the trouble, sparky. You can't.

No, I don't wish to make anything PC. I just see a pointless argument in which the two sides will never agree. You could go on reciting the same stuff for 1000 posts and the 2 sides still won't agree. You aren't going to win anyone over on your side, and they aren't going to win you to their side. That is why I agreed with the post that person made with the statement:

"I am not up on my British law, but last I checked, here in the states, we do have freedom of religion. While I do not necessarily condone what a person believes, it is not my job to condemn for what is believed or how people practice their faith. Period. "
