Terri's Ordeal Compared to Christ's Crucifixion
CNSNews ^ | 3/22/05 | Susan Jines

Terri Schiavo's mother Mary Schindler is like another Mary -- forced to watch her child die, a spiritual adviser to the Schindler family said on Tuesday.

Brother Paul O'Donnell spoke on Tuesday after a federal judge refused an emergency request to reinsert Terri's feeding and hydration tube.

"During this week, as we look to Good Friday, all Mary the mother of Christ could do was stand at her child's side. He was condemned by unjust courts, the same way Terri Schaivo is being condemned to die by court order.

"We pray that this modern-day crucifixion will not happen and we have faith that Terri will be liberated, and we are not giving up hope," O'Donnell added.

Terri's parents are described as devout Roman Catholics.

In comments outside the Pinellas Park, Fla., hospice, O'Donnell said what's happening inside is heart-breaking:

"Her own mother cannot offer her daughter an ice chip in her mouth to make her comfortable," he said. "Her own mother, in the United States of America, cannot go in and comfort her and prop pillows under her, or rub lotion to her body. Her own mother cannot be at her side without being watched by armed police officers -- in the United States of America."

Too late. We've had FReepers advocating armed insurrection, FGS, to say nothing about calling out the National guard, the federal marshalls, and the 82nd Airborne.

It's totally slipped the rails.

Fanatical stupidity is gonna bring us down.

But doesn't mean we can't profit from it! I'm currently working on a way to burn Terri Schiavo's image into a grilled cheese sandwich so I can sell it on Ebay. : )

I have been thinking much the same. How odd this is happening during Holy Week. The health of the Pope seems to underscore the madness that our country has sunk.

God told the Israelites that if they would not follow him in their prosperity and glory, he would throw them down and they would follow him in poverty and misery.

No, there is nothing efficacious about the death of this woman.

That is the more salient point of the article...

The interesting thing would be if we could get a Muslim cleric to issue a "fatwah" in support of Schiavo. That would really throw a bunch of these folks for a loop wouldn't it? Conflict of interests? lol

Um, let's not take this too far.

Considering that our government officials are doing a pretty good job of playing Pilate, I'm not sure this is too far off.

Please don't try that again then. Leave the thinking to the professionals. : )

So you're comfortable with comparing these judges to Pilate and her mom to Mary. Is Terri Schiavo the second coming of Christ?

Gee, if there was only a small percentage of outrage for a sexually tortued 9 year girl held captive for up to two days by a sexual pervert as there is for this woman who has absolutely no cerebral cortex then perhaps, this country might get something done about these abductions.

There is nothing fanatical here. Every Catholic is told to be like Christ, they call it alterchriti (not sure of the spelling). We are also taught to emulate Mary the Mother of God. This is very conventional and not at all fanatical. Unless you consider all Catholics fanatical?

You have no idea what you are talking about. Terri is Catholic and clearly you are ignorant of Catholic doctrine and teachings. With every stoke of the keyboard you illuminate ignorance.

Um, let's not take this too far.

I too see that the analogy seems a bit much.

But I also see an innocent person being killed. I see people who on one side give a thumbs up and on the other side a thumbs down as far as the question of life. I see people in power saying who can be killed and others following their orders. I see other people in power washing their hands of the situation. I see still more powerful people calling for death for their own political purposes. I see a family grieving and powerless to stop the murder. I see a person who is being put through a painful and horrid death. I see someone who once was supposed to love the person being killed turn on the person to be killed.

I happen to be seeing this all before Easter. Hmm.

I agree with you but don't expect to see that sort of outrage much longer. Be it a burdensome handicapped wife or parent, unwanted baby or expendable nonproductive little kid it is all about the adult's orgasm in the US today.
