I really feel bad about passing this child and not picking up their mother.

Oh, please. No one who willingly, stridently champions the butchering of helpless babies (i.e., abortion) could possibly feel even a nano-second's worth of regret over refusing to help a child by the side of the road.

Check out this late gem from the DU thread.

Meldread (1000+ posts)

87. Message to Freepers:

Please put "Free Republic" bumper stickers on your car. That way, if I ever personally see one of you in a situation like this, I can swerve to hit you. I wouldn't care if you are holding a baby or not, you poison everything you touch and are not worthy of the air you breathe.

You are sick, sick, evil people and you deserve whatever the hell happens to you. You are right about one thing, though, I have no compassion. At least not for your kind. All my compassion is being spent on the HUMANS (something you are not) your kind have purposefully set out to maim, kill, and destroy. Everything has its limits, even compassion. You reap what you sow. Enjoy your harvest.

Nice.

Liberals love the idea of humanity in general, they hate individuals in particular.

It's the opposite of an unfortunately precient quote by Nietzsche. To paraphrase: "I am filled with sadness when I think of the German people: so estimable in the individual! So contemptible as a whole!"

Oh, I thought that it was based on this section of The Brothers Karamazov, which struck me when I read it:

"It's just the same story as a doctor once told me," observed the elder. "He was a man getting on in years, and undoubtedly clever. He spoke as frankly as you, though in jest, in bitter jest.

'I love humanity,' he said, 'but I wonder at myself. The more I love humanity in general, the less I love man in particular. In my dreams,' he said, 'I have often come to making enthusiastic schemes for the service of humanity, and perhaps I might actually have faced crucifixion if it had been suddenly necessary; and yet I am incapable of living in the same room with anyone for two days together, as I know by experience. As soon as anyone is near me, his personality disturbs my self-complacency and restricts my freedom. In twenty-four hours I begin to hate the best of men: one because he's too long over his dinner; another because he has a cold and keeps on blowing his nose. I become hostile to people the moment they come close to me. But it has always happened that the more I detest men individually the more ardent becomes my love for humanity.'

The DU post itself is simply unbelievable. I refuse to visit--part of me wonders if this thread's continued in the same vein, but another part of me can already guess the answer.

I heard a story once defining the difference between Republicans and Democrats. If your car broke down by the side of the road a Republican would drive right past you. A Democrat would pull over to help but, somehow, end up setting your car on fire.

I believe I can safely say that FR has never taken the steps that DU does to hide its contents at 'critical' times.

They have to for humanitarian reasons. I was trolling over there last election night when they closed down to the outside world. It was a scream. They were all at each others throats. The moderators had to stop showing everybodys post count so the noobies wouldn't be eaten. I was on the floor with laughter all night. Would have killed a mere mortal.

I am sorry to hear that.

You do not do yourself, conservatives, America or for that matter humanity any favors with an attitude like that.

I would have defiantely stopped no matter what. Actually I might even be MORE intersted to stop of I knew it was a koz kid or DUmmie... I LOVE 'debating' with some of the loonies.

I always get a huge laugh out of it, and its just SO EZ to play them like a fiddle and back them up into a corner using their own flawed logic.

Just look what Mr. Rove has done to them over and over and over again.

Anyway, a stupid sticker certainly wouldn't make a difference on weather I'd stop or not.

I registered over there once but I don't remember my username or password. It was a really long drawn out process. You had to join one of those liberal email sights and use that email address and wait for them to send you a password to get in. I never did post and have forgotten my info to the liberal email site and to DU. It was much easier to register in FR. Thank God for Rush Limbaugh who steered me to FR. I guess the folks at FR are much more trusting than DU.

Did the good folks at DU supply you with a Mental Hazmat Suit? You'd definitely need one in that corner of cyberspace.

I never did post. I was trying to figure out how to post without getting banned but never could. I had some good advice from a freeper who spent alot of time at DU but I figured I would get banned after my first post anyway. LOL

Wow.

To think that this woman wouldn't help someone in need, simply because of their political persuasion is mind-boggling. The sheer hatred that drips from her as she honestly believes Bush is ruining this nation. I couldn't stand the Clinton regime when it was in power but if someone needed help and it was within my capacity to do so, they got it, regardless of their political leanings.

This woman is sick and anyone who would share her sentiments is a soulless ghoul!

Pah! She wouldn't care. In fact, she'd probably be on the DU board, celebrating one less supporters of Bush in the USA.

same here. I live in Massachusetts - Boston to be exact. The number of fellow Bostonians / Americans I have helped who are liberal? I have no idea. I wouldn't dream of letting a stupid bumper sticker get in the way of being a good citizen. This ' Gurl ' is simply a horrible bitch - you leave a mother and child at the side of the road - for what reason????
Sick -

You're a little late to the party, aren't you? The bashing began six days ago! I guess I deserved every bit of it. Sometimes the demented behavior on the left brings out the worst in me and, being human, I want to lash out. I must say, though, that the "trip to the wood shed" that I was taken on by my fellow Freepers was sobering. Actually, I was surprised by how many took issue with my comment. As you can see from my profile I've been here longer than almost anyone so nothing should surprise me anymore.

I read quite a few of the DU responses, but didn't see anyone say that picking up the mother and child could have led to a "teaching moment" for the DU'er who could have been overwhelmingly kind to the stranded mother and child (offer to let the mother use her cell phone, ask her if she would like to stop to see if the baby needed changing, etc.) while driving her home, and then right after the woman was out the door, thanking the good samaritan, let the stranded woman know that she owed her rescue to a Bush hater who would never ignore a person in need despite political differences.
