"We need an experienced jurist who knows constitutional law...not a girlfriend of Laura's."

Miers isn't even a jurist. And we certainly don't need Laura Bush calling those in the conservative base who disagree with her husband's pick of a Bush crony sexists. I didn't like it when Hillary Clinton became the "two for the price of one" president, and I don't like Laura picking SCOTUS nominees.

GW did NOT nominate the type of a person that he told us he would. Miers is not the best candidate and it wreaks of cronyism. His chance of changing the SCOTUS with this nomination is minimal, at best. This has the appearance of weakness on his part when the likes of Leahy and Schumer can dictate who he cannot nominate and he takes the advice of Harry Reid, even over his own base. GW is doing what he said he would not do by this nomination.

Wanting us to trust his decision is NOT an option to some of us. His judgment of people in the past has left a lot to be desired and does not bode well in this case, IMO. Some of us remember his being burned or embarrassed, in the past, by placing his trust in the likes of Bernard Kerik, Paul O'Neill, Linda Chavez, and let's not forget Doug Wead and Christy Todd Whitman.

His failure to protect our borders, among other things, leads many of us to distrust his decision making. Calling Americans that are putting themselves out in order to try and protect our borders VIGILANTES, is unforgivable and further makes us wonder about his choices.

Many of us have worked diligently and donated much money to causes to get GW elected and re-elected because we liked what he said he would do and many of those things are not being done.

At this point, if his assessment of Miers is wrong, it will be too late to change it, once she has been confirmed and we gain no ground, perhaps losing ground on the direction the SC takes our country in the future. If we are to keep this country headed in the direction our Drafters of the Constitution intended, we have got to nominate someone that has fought the battle with the liberals and WON, somewhere along their way.

Enough is enough. There are times when people must take a stand for what is right.

I guess nerd refers to the fact that I enjoy developing software related stuff & testing new fangled gadgets like the new nano ipod. As for geek - if you mean pocket protector, bad hairdo, and thick glasses, not exactly! Well, anybody can have a bad hair day... ;)

My gosh - call me naive, but I never would have expected something like that.

I always prided myself on being a nerd when I was studying physics as an undergrad and graduate student. I didn't carry a pen pal [you call it pocket protector], but I smoked cheap cigars with my fellow physics nerds (they called our "seegars" Palma throwouts) while we discussed Dirac and wave-particle duality. I really prefer nerds over all those law school classmates I had. BTW, some of my best pals had bad hair, thick glasses, and yes, pen pals.

When that meteorite starts heading toward planet Earth and the collision will help us along the way of the dinosaurs, who will be called on to deliver us from doom?
Lawyers? Senators? Harriet Miers?
No, it will be NERDS to the rescue.

"What part of knock it off did you not understand?"

In the spirit of the debate over the Miers nomination, I would much appreciate it if you could at least explain to me what you mean by "what part of knock it off did you not understand."

I really have no idea what your problem is.

Surely you will at least give me the courtesy of telling me what I should knock off.

I have no idea. I'd appreciate it if you would put it in words. This is after all supposed to be a forum where debate is encouraged. As Jim Robinson himself said just a short while ago, we're all conservatives. I guess you have some other ideas. I hope you will at least give me the courtesy of telling me why is should STFU about whatever it is that is bugging you. If SINKSPUR has caught your ear, at least admit it.
