CAMERA PAN PANNED -- Flap Over Malkin Cutaway Heats Up Blogosphere
The Radio Equalizer- Brian Maloney ^ | February 9th, 2006 | Brian Maloney

Were it to happen on any other network, say CNN, CBS, MSNBC, or PBS, it would surprise almost no one. Nor would it generate much subsequent attention.

It's a whole different ballgame, however, when a FOX News Channel contributor, seemingly in the name of political correctness, appears to face on-air censorship.

After Michelle Malkin's Tuesday Hannity & Colmes visit, where the camera cut away just as she attempted to show a series of controversial Danish cartoons related to Islam, the blogosphere has become hopping mad. Expose The Left has video here.

Fox and Clear Channel don't do conservatives any favors.

The "camera cutaway" could not have been more egregiously blatant. While Michelle was clearly and succinctly describing the cartoons, and lucidly making her point, we were seeing street violence that bore absolutely no relevance to the context of what she was saying. It was a distraction, pure and simple. The clown, Levine, from Berserkely, is an idiot. What is a guy with a Jewish name doing defending these murderous "Religion of Peace" bastids?? His minimizing and appeasing and morally temporizing statements may sound good in the hallowed halls of academia, but were risibly and speciously wrong.

Oh really? I guess I live in an alternate universe.

21 uninterrupted seconds of her sign, with six seconds in close-up.

The more she complains about this, the more respect I lose for her.

How "close" were the close-ups?

In other words, could you actually see any of the INDIVIDUAL cartoons -- or just the "group" image that you posted above?

Yes, as well as you could expect from a sign put together at Kinkos on the way into the studio.

Please don't get me wrong... I love Michelle, I love what she did and what she's doing. But she was not wronged or mistreated on H&C, and they did not cut away from the pictures she was trying to show.

I did not see the show, but here is Michelle's actual blog report of the TV appearance, from michellemalkin.com/archives/004496.htm:
VIDEO: BREAKING THE TABOO

I appeared tonight on Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes for an all-too-brief segment on the Mohammed Cartoons. Before I drove to the Washington, D.C., studio, I stopped by a Kinko's store, printed out the cartoons, and pasted them onto a piece of poster board. I then used my short time on the airwaves to do what no one wants to do on American TV:

I tried to show viewers all 12 cartoons to give viewers the full context of the Jyllands-Posten's decision to publish the artwork.

Download and watch the video (Windows Media .wmv file).

(Full segment over at Expose the Left.)

Unfortunately, as I tried to walk through the content of the cartoons, the camera cut from my display to video of the Islamists' crazed, violent protests. As if we hadn't seen enough of that already.

What are the news networks and newspapers so afraid of?

Not sure what the OTHER bloggers are saying, but Michelle herself did NOT seem to claim that Fox NEVER showed the cartoons, but rather that they only showed them cursorily -- not in the depth that she would have preferred.

I rarely even tune into Fox anymore. The American T.V. 'news' media pretty much sucks all the way around.
