I am very familiar with the 'spanking will cure it' school of thought. It doesn't.
What it does do is make the child even more disfunctional and suicidal at a very young age. Familial history has proven that.....
For those who are true ADD'ers, the greatest gifts in the world are meds (like Ritaliin, Adderal etc) that make the static in the brain stop and give the person a chance to actual focus and think.
If you haven't been there, the greatest miracle in the world is your first clear day of organized thought!
Look,
one of the first things an ADD'er will tell you is that they resent that it is over diagnosed and 'trendy' in some settings. It not only does a terrible diservice to those who really have it, but screw up the majority who don't have it, and need a different intervention.
That may be true.
On the other hand, slapping the label of "ADD" on every young boy in public school that is acting like, well, a young boy, and putting him on Ritalin is not doing the future of this country any favors.
We all agree with that....
The behaviors of a normal inquisative, energetic boy (or girl for that matter) are really good traits. You're learning, exploring, pushing the boundaries and going for more.
The real kids with the real problems live in a zone of total confusion and overload, unlike the other kid who is processing and just going for more to process.
i believe your home page is a truer definition of ignorant than my posts.
Not only are you showing your ignorance, but also a total lack of a sense of humor.
You have just taken what was a serious discussion on an issue that faces many families in our society and made it personal by attacking someone for their sense of humor.
It is my opinion that you are misinformed and not worth another minute of my time (that's what it has taken to type this).
Dad!
Mom said you were dead!
Ours was like that. Went to sleep around midnight and woke up at 5 am saying, "Play? play?" Never took naps until he was in high school. In the summer we put him outside and he played in the sandbox all day long. When he could ride a bike he went up and down the street for ages. It was wild. The physical action went away in early grades. He would read a 300 page book in a couple hours. Then he couldn't add a simple column of numbers no matter what we did. First day on Ritalin and he became a math wiz. The teacher didn't know he was on it and was very surprised.
Some of these folks who swear they will never admit to the existence of ADD are so sad it is funny. They don't have a clue. Thanks for your story. I've got a lot more experience with ADD and I could tell a few more heartwarming stories, but I don't want to do it here.
Mom said you were dead!
Son?!? Is that you?? I'm still kicking and sweet as ever! How are you?

Nothing's changed I see...
(I'm your daughter silly!) ;)
bttt
Do you have any scientific evidence to back that statement up, or is it as I suspect just your "feeling" that it is real.
So you have scientific evidence that proves ADD is real? Show it to me.
Show me scientific proof that ADD is real. My bet is you have none.
If it can't be proven scientifically, I sure the heck doubt it.
Absolutely!
Amen! There is no scientific evidence to prove ANYONE much less 7 million people have ADD. The MRIs showed that people who take Ritalin had certain areas of their brains shrunk, not people who didn't! Anyone that would willfully put their kids on drugs without proof that it was absolutely necessary, doesn't deserve them. It's child abuse as far as I am concerned.
There is no definitive test for ADD/ADHD. Brain scans have shown differences in patients, but these are not proof of the condition.
The same is true of schizophrenia. There is no known cause of schizophrenia. Do you deny schizophrenia exists?
In the early days of medicine, there was no scientific proof of any disease, but they still existed.
Well THAT explains a lot of things I've been wondering about!
