Is Fred Thompson In?

That’s what I heard tonight from a Blue Dog Democrat Congressman who has close ties to some TN GOP members (and who even donated to Thompson’s senate races back in the ’90s.)

It's a blog, but from a guy in Virginia who has ties to capital hill, who has yet in my recollection to report something certain that turned out to be wrong.

I certainly hope he is.

Snowballs, once big enough, rolling down mountains rarely stop. Look at Loving Husband Edwards -- not even for the mother of his children can he stop his snowball.

So, when does McCain quit the race, I wonder?

Here's something funny: as you all know, Fred Thompson has been the voice of Paul Harvey News each day recently. This has given him 3 or 4 minutes each day to promote his political and social philosophy nationwide, not only free of charge but while being compensated by the ABC radio network. Now the ABC Washington affiliate, WMAL, is playing "Hail to the Chief" before Thompson comes on in the morning! He hasn't even announced and they're considering it a foregone conclusion that he's going to be president. They may be right.

Out of the current crop of Republican candidates, I think the un-declared candidate Thompson would overrun the field.

So, when does McCain quit the race, I wonder?

Probably a few days before Fred jumps in. He's gotta know by now that he can't win the nomination, and the RNC is probably starting to lean on him to get out. So he'll call a press conference, site "health reasons" and bow out gracefully.

My guess: it'll happen soon, because Rudy and Romney are sucking up all the big money, and I read last week that he's struggling to raise cash. Once Fred jumps in, you can also stick a fork in Romney. Conservatives who are lukewarm to him(like me) will jump on the Fred Thompson wagon, and the money will dry up. It'll come down to Fred and Rudy.

Yep.

I would like to think so. My 19-year-old daughter has already made her own Thompson bumper sticker and her 18-year-old cousin is starting a line of Thompson tee-shirts.

I hate to say this, but what about the man's personal life? Are there skeletons there? This doesn't have to do with Fred Thompson and his positions, it has to do with media scrutiny. God knows that things like that can throw candidates for a loop. Remember all the mud slung at Dubya

I hope vetting is done early so the candidate we end up nominating can solidly weather it. Because dirt will certainly show up in ANY of them. This not to malspeak them but to point out the very real concern of media scrutiny and public perception. There's a quote from Horatio Hornblower -- "We each have a maggott in our past that would happily devour our future."

I think your analysis is exactly on the mark accurate.

That's just great.

Can you imagine Fred debating Hillary or Obama? It would make the Cheney v. Edwards debate seem like a fair fight.

I've caught 3 of his Paul Harvey broadcasts this week. I really don't like the sound of his voice, his manner of speech, his dialect, or anything else I hear on his Paul Harvey radio gig.

What has this guy got?
What does he stand for?
Why should I not wish he goes away?

As I've said a couple of times, I don't think radio is really Fred's strong suit, either. He's much better in front of a camera. His physical presence is what gives force to his words, I think.

I love the voice.

Fred Thompson has a lifetime ACU rating of 86. He's a fiscal conservative who is also pro-life and pro-right to keep and bare arms.

He has instant "face recognition" from his acting career.
