Lynn Cheney, Gertrude Himmelfarb, even Phyllis, all better watch out. I remember how they could write as 14 year olds, they will make a nice addition to the world of adult discourse should they chose to write.
Let her sister know we remember her as well.
NattieShea turned them down for Stanford, in part to stay closer to home.
When I sang in choir, I sometimes made up the base line if I hadn't read the music. Something similar happens when pontificating about ancient texts, if you know what I mean. It might sound good, but it won't be right.
Being honest about what someone did or didn't say sometimes has great social costs. This is because most literary work is done for social success, not understanding per se.

BTW, congratulations on the skill and determination for your son to make it into Cornell. What’s his major?
Congratulations to you and the Mrs, and of course to your girls.
Congratulations. It’s great to see your daughters all grown up into beautiful young ladies. Does my heart good to know they will be the future of America.
That's why I've kept this thread going.
Sincerest congratulations!
Well done; congrats.
Heading for the river for a week or two.
D.
They did the work; I just expected them to do it.
Really, I feel more relieved than proud, thinking of all the things I wish we could have done. I guess that's just how it is.
I am so proud of them both, and I know you are also. I'm really happy that Nattie will be closer to us, and will consider this her "home" away from home when she gets a weekend off now and then. Papa, you did a good job. Rest on your laurels now. Blessings, Nan
I think you know me better than that. :-)
Both are destined for glory in this world and in the next!!!
Both have had stellar parents of tremendous character and God's blessings upon them!!!
What a family!!!
Terrific!
Wow! Congrats proud father. Does Natalie’s hat indicate she was at the Derby when the photo was snapped?
Both photos were taken at the California Derby at Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley, CA. "A day at the races" was Katherine's 18th birthday present. We spent the day in the upper tier restaurant, and came down for the Derby itself.
Katherine loves race horses, and is very good at picking winners. In fact, she missed winning an exacta bet in the Derby by six inches, betting upon the winner (at 9:1) and the show horse. So she made money on her bets, albeit not much.
I've never seen a hat on Natalie that didn't love her. It was a great day.
Oh my gosh ... WHAT happened to your little girls?!?! What beautiful young ladies they’ve become!
I’m so happy for your family. Well done, Carry_Okie!
If you only knew how wonderful this has been, especially with both girls in sciences dealing indirectly with the unique scientific project that is our land. Just sharing papers and research questions with them has been immensely rewarding.
Katherine's valedictorian speech is here, starting at 12:00.
Good to hear from you! You are missed.
This is the Opening Committee performance of a polka at the Stanford Viennese Ball. She is in the third couple from the front on the left. This girl lives to dance. In a fast polka she flies, in a slow waltz she floats; it's a dream to watch her.
