Wondering where you got the idea I wasn’t giving them any credit?

I was just reporting on my memories of how it was back in the early sisties, for those who weren’t around then.

No disrespect meant toward anyone, null! Why are you so quick to pick on me?

Wow. Great job.

According to http://hawaii.gov/hawaiiaviation/publications/hnl-gateway-brochure/AirportBro-web-part2.pdf

Overseas and International Terminals
(John Rodgers Terminal)
The John Rodgers Terminal was dedicated on August 22, 1962. The Diamond Head Gull Wing was added in 1970 to handle B747 aircraft. The airport’s three-level International Arrivals Terminal was completed in 1973.
That seems to mean the photos ARE from 1961, not the early seventies. And I guess David is right about the boy being the older brother, or Calpernia is right that the photo is a photoshop. Geesh.

Why? It's just completely out of the question that the airport could look the same 10 years later? You think Hawaii renovated their airport every 5 years?

I found this archive picture of the Pan Am ticket lobby at the Honolulu airport from 1961 (at this link of Hawaiian aviation historical photos). Note that the San Francisco banner is actually a counter sign hanging from the pole seen on the left. If you click on the preview picture at the site, you can see a full-screen version of the picture.

This may be a different part of the terminal, but it sure looks to me like it's absolutely the Honolulu Airport in the 1960's.

On another note, regarding the 1964 divorce reference to a marriage on Maui in Feb 1961, if you click around on the site linked above, it looks like air travel to Maui was pretty primitive in those days. What did it cost to fly to Maui in 1961, and where would one go near the few airports that were there? I'm assuming the husband had the resources for the trip, since I'm not sure that a 18-year-old would.

Nice work. The boy in the picture can't be Barack. He wasn't that old before they rebuilt the airport.

Something like that. The way I read the HNL history says that they renovated or replaced the international terminal in 1962. But I’m really wondering about the 1961 date on that particular empty terminal photo. Why is it empty? If anything that looks like a late-sixties, early-seventies style terminal as does the Dad’s clothing, the wide band watches and such.

Thanks! That should clear it up as to which airport it was.

Your #2499:

I'm not looking for the State's Vital Statistics department--I am pretty confident if the documents didn't get filed with the locals, they didn't get filed with the State either.

I am looking for what got reported in the local newspapers. The old library had those newspapers on fiche--I know because somebody dug them out in connection with a client matter about ten years ago.

I have posted several times, the absence of any fact anywhere that supports any of the Hawaii fairy tale, among other things the newspaper Vital Statistics reports. Someone challenged me on the question of who had looked and there is a report that in fact somebody looked but now I would like to either look myself or have somebody look that could later sign an affidavit if I needed one--we looked; it wasn't there.

And for those who thought it said “Phillipines” it says “Pan American”.

Although he didn't say it at the time, Abercrombie privately feared that the relationship would be short-lived. Obama was one of the most ambitious, self-focused men he had ever met. After Obama was accepted to study at Harvard, Stanley Ann disappeared from the University of Hawaii student gatherings, but she did not accompany her husband to Harvard. Abercrombie said he rarely saw her after that. "I know he loved Ann," Abercrombie said, but "I think he didn't want the impediment of being responsible for a family. He expected great things of himself and he was going off to achieve them."

thanks for the link Ali, I've been wondering about this Abercrombie:

WHAT BARACK OBAMA LEARNED.LINK.

Excerpt:

For Stanley Ann, her new relationship with Barack Obama and weekend discussions seemed to be, in part, a logical extension of long coffeehouse sessions in Seattle and the teachings of Wichterman and Foubert. The forum now involved graduate students from the University of Hawai`i. They spent weekends listening to jazz, drinking beer and debating politics and world affairs.

The self-assured and opinionated Obama spoke with a voice so deep that "he made James Earl Jones seem like a tenor," said Neil Abercrombie, a Democratic congressman from Hawai`i who was part of those regular gatherings.

While Obama was impatient and energized, Stanley Ann, whom Abercrombie described as "the original feminist," was endlessly patient but quietly passionate in her arguments. She was the only woman in the group.

Abercrombie is described by Hawaii Reporter editor Malia Zimmerman as "D-Hezbollah" for his weakness on terror and anti-Israel record in Congress. Today he represents Honolulu in the US Congress and is a member of the Socialist-founded Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Two different signs. The Obama Senior photo taken maybe some yards right of the photo scene in the empty terminal photo. Maybe different years and the signs changed.

Can you clarify this...I'm not understanding this sentence. Where is there a report that somebody looked? Who looked? What did the report say and where can we read that report?

Why do you say "I would like to either look myself or have somebody look..." then say "we looked; it wasn't there"?

"The boy in the picture can't be Barack. He wasn't that old before they rebuilt the airport."

Several people kept saying it was Malik, but I don't find any sons named Malik.

With his first wife Kezia, he had Roy (now known as "Abongo",Bernard, Abo, and a daughter Auma.

With his third "white" wife Ruth he had David and Mark.

So can someone tell me where "Malik" fits in?

I believe Roy is “Malik Abongo”. I’ve just been checking and it appears his estimated birth year is 1958/1959.

It is posted on this thread--in the early going. And it's a link to an article to someone who looked in published news reports in the Hawaii newspapers and found no mention of any birth that might be Obama in the last week of July through the end of the second week in August.

You need to look for Barack H. Obama; Barry Dunham; a host of possible names for the baby; you need to look for a mother named Stanley or Ann or Dunham or Obama or anything close.

You don't know whether the person who looked did it correctly; maybe they made a mistake; if you get in a lawsuit over the issue, you won't rely on a news report, you will want an affidavit; probably someone who could give live testimony--"there is no newspaper report of his birth". If true.

Ah, jacquej.

I re-read my post and it did sound like I was picking on you a bit didn’t it?

I didn’t intend to sound like that, and I’m sorry it did.

Some seem to think I’m attacking Stanley Ann, and I guess I got a little strident in painting her as someone who was trying to make the best of a bad situation, and made decisions and took actions that are best understood as those of a young and somewhat naïve mother.

Anyway, I’m sorry I blasted you...

According to this site the construction of the Terminals continued into the 70's so it wouldn't have been completed before Barack was 10.

I guess the question is did they build a new terminal and keep the old terminal active as well? Could Pan Am have moved to the new terminal, and other airlines (Philippines?) have moved in to the "old" terminal? Or did they tear it down?

I guess I'm asking if it's jumping to conclusions to assume that the old terminal wasn't still in use after the new one was dedicated in 1962?

All birth records I’ve seen published in newspapers do not list the child’s name - only the parents and whether the child is a boy or girl. As in, “Thomas Jones and Veronica Jones, boy”, or in the event unmarried, John Smith and Sarah Golden, girl.
