There she met Barack Obama, Sr. They married on February 2, 1961; Dunham was three months pregnant at the time. According to the University of Hawaii, Obama's mother attended school in the fall of 1960, but did not return to their campus until Spring of 1963. See Attached UH Registrar Letter
Two of my FOIAs involve records from the U.S. State Department regarding Dunham's departure(s) from the U.S. and arrival(s) back onto U.S. soil during 1961. To date, I haven't received a response from them, but it is apparent that Obama's mother was not in school during the entire year of 1961, 1962 and part of 1963.
As I believe you recognize, I have always believed that the chronology through August, 1961 is a critical part of the record because it fits the course of events as I believe they happened--they went to Kenya to get married because it would have constituted criminal bigamy in Hawaii; she stayed--he returned to school at U of H; she was obstructed getting on the airplane in Nariobi in July and could not return to the states; Barack born in Coast Hospital at Mombasa on August 4 Kenya time and date; she gets on the airplane that day or the next (British Overseas Airline--see the schedule posted on this thread); returns to Vancouver BC through Glaskow Scotland; then to Seattle for the stopover with several of her friends testifying she was there before she had learned to change diapers; then on to Hawaii before the 8th when she signed an affidavit of Live Birth and filed it with Hawaii Dept of Public Health.
Most of this post agrees with that time line and otherwise reflects the facts as I see them down to "Obama's mother was not in school during the entire year of 1961, 1962 and part of 1963"--I don't think that is a necessary part of the timeline. No doubt she didn't return to U of Hawaii until spring 1963 but I also believe there is a record of her attendance in spring quarter of 1962 and perhaps fall quarter of 1962 that she was at the U of W in Seattle. Probable reason for the extension course she signed up for in August of 1961 at the U of W was to comply with transfer entrance which permitted her to become a resident student in 62.
If Ann went to Kenya from Hawaii, she would have had to get various vaccinations. Would it be possible to figure out what doctors would be practicing at that time to give those shots? I suppose records would be gone by now, and I don’t know if HIPPA laws go back that far.

But they got married in Feb 1961, so for her to go get married in Kenya, she would have to have remained in Kenya from Feb 1961 through August, when Obama was born.
