Ah, no. Bitmaps, to include DIBs, can be 32 bit color to include an alpha blending value. 8-bit bitmaps are rtestricted to 256 colors, but not all bitmaps.

Thanks so much for the clear information. The real question is if O was born in Hawaii why forge a COLB? I think we know the answer. I bet this issue is at least in part, why he is in Hawaii right now.

The way I read it, Polarik's saying that a deliberate forgery was made, hoping it wouldn't be uncovered. If it were, though, the forger is someone not obviously connected to the campaign, which would then make it simply a "this is not the birth certificate I knew" moment.

The question of whether Obama can supply either an authentic COLB or original birth certificate in the name of Barack Obama II is more problematic, IMO.

Interesting analysis, but I don’t have enough confidence about it yet to endorse your conclusions. There may be plausible explanations for the anamolies besides forgery.

Thanks. I’ve been following these threads with great interest but a lot of the details are pretty abstruse and I have a hard time following it.

And I can’t help thinking that, post-Rather, wannabe forgers have to know these things will be examined by people all over the world. Its like a ticking time-bomb waiting to go off when you least want it to. Or maybe the reverse, its a land-mine laid in there that can go off when you want it to.

So who made the forgery, who is pulling their string, and why won’t Obama just produce an original?
