(vanity) 6 Degrees of FreeRepublic - finding someone you know is a FReeper

We all know that FreeRepublic is a great place to trade ideas/news/resources/knowledge/humor with similarly-minded people.

A lot of folks on here have made friends with complete strangers via this forum.

Other people have even met and gotten married through this site.

But does anyone have a story where they had seen a FReepers' posts on here and later discovered that they actually knew the poster in the "real world"?

(Celebrity posters like the late, great Tony Snow not included)

I’ve had something like that happen too. My class was reading a book about journalism and while reading very diligently(/whistles) I missed the part that mentioned Free republic . Well my room mate was reading the book also, and she must have finished reading that chapter because she comes and looks over my shoulder and says, “So your on Free Republic.” It took me two weeks to figure out why she said that (The book I think didn’t put it in a good light... I’m not really sure though. I read it five times and still didn’t get why they put it in).

It would be so cool to meet another Freeper though. There’s a lot in GA, so maybe I have but I doubt I know any. That’s because I only really know college students and computer inept adults or liberals.

You are so right!

You know what was the best for me?

Seeing how many people brought their Freeper children along, my own daughter included. It turned into a regular daddy-daughter date for some of us.

yep!

It was a thread about the Diocese of Rochester!
Great minds think alike!

We joined the night a Cat5 hurricane was heading for florida.
Our daughter was supposed to take a trip to Orlando the day before it was supposed to hit.
My hubby was searching the internet for hurricane news and somehow found this site.
We didn’t even realize it was a conservative site.

He registered under his name, but got interrupted.
I continued the conversation under “scotswife” - so they would realize they weren’t still talking to him.

Anyways...it didn’t take long to realize this was the place to check or news, politics, and funnies.

I’ve seen other freeps post about coming from this area, but tioga is the only one I know personally.

It all depends upon where you are in the state. There are blue areas in Indiana, just like there are red areas in most of the blue states.

Of all the people I want to meet on FR martin you would have to be at the top. Although slim and chuck are also there along side you. Jim Rob would be there too.

Damn, I was hoping this thread was going to be something along the lines of:

Kevin Bacon was in "We Married Margo" with Erik Estrada.
Erik Estrada was in "Loaded Weapon 1" with James Doohan.
James Doohan was named "Scotty".
Many Scots settled in Appalachia.
Jed Clampett migrated from Appalachia to California.
California is where FreeRepublic is. (6!)

Yeah. That would have been much more fun.

Wow, interesting thread.

I Freepmail with people on here regularly but have never met anyone on the ‘outside’ who’s a Freeper.

I’m not sure I want to. While I envy those Freepers who seem so close-knit, I like keeping FR separate from my everyday life. It’s a nice refuge.

Columbus (..weird town..) BC is usually a reliable “Republican” stronghold, yet on the west side of I65 is mostly made up of “rockefeller liberal republicans”, and yuppies that think Columbus is NYC..gag me)! Anyway, even though I must love them as Christ did, give me the south (used to live there, both in VA, NC and SC anyday :-)!

FR is an anonymous community. Ideal really.
