George Bush Avenue (by an Iraqi =shoe throwing incident)

I think quite a number of Iraqis were embarassed by how their guest got treated today. Personally, I got angry. Very angry.

I will make a public promise:

should I ever run into a certain reporter called Muntather al-Zaidi, presently of Al-Baghdadia TV,

I will seriously consider beating the crap out of him.

If I am successful in bringing him down, then my coup de grace shall be to take one of his shoes, preferably the one on the right, and stuff it in his mouth. I know that will be illegal.

I am willing to face all the legal consequences, and the tribal ones too. But as I said, I will give it serious consideration.

And should it come to light that someone had put him up to it, paid him or cajoled him into doing it, then they too will get the same treatment. I'm not cut out to be a thug, but I will try anyway.

See, I will forever remain indebted to President George W. Bush.

He is my hero. He liberated Iraq, and that's how I will always see it.

Had there been no President Bush, then Saddam would still be Saddam.

The usual suspects are ecstatic over what happened, especially the US-based media and Iraq-watchers.

I would like to beat them all up too, but I think that would be a tad bit excessive. The best revenge is to make them watch Iraq's democracy strengthen and prosper.

Today's images gave them a temporary high; a new Iraq, free and democratic, something they believed would never happen, will gnaw at their insides for the rest of their lives.

I'll settle for that.

Give it twenty years or so, but a main thoroughfare in Baghdad will be called George Bush Avenue. Or maybe that's just the name of my driveway. Anyway, there will be a big sign and all.

In the meantime, the progeny and immediate family of Muntather al-Zaidi will have a new tribal classification: the Albu Ni'alaan (ألبو نعلان), of the Bani Qanadir (بنو قنادر).

I read a couple of threads on DU, and for the most part, the responses to the incident are what you’d expect. However, several posters, were appalled that the security wasn’t better.

I can guarantee you that every local national in attendance was thoroughly searched and any electronic devices or any other security threats were removed from their persons.

This is a daily and regular procedure for any local nationals passing a checkpoint to any facility where there are coalition members present. So, those shoes were the only weapon that idiot had.

I'm just wondering if Iraqis visiting our compound will now have to come in without their shoes on. ;-)

I find it funny that an “Iraqi journalist” threw a shoe at Mr Bush, when it is because of the Bush liberation of Iraq that there is even such a thing as a “Iraqi journalist”.

That is a brilliant observation. Unless you object, I’m turning it into a tagline. Had to shorten it a little, of course.

Go right ahead. Its the truth.

Yeah, and wait until Bush is replied by the fraud named Obama. She’ll see what a poor president will really do to our nation. For shame.

It’s photoshopped from another picture of a member of a mob. He’s one of our favorite terrorists, LOL.

Yes. And my answer came so quickly...that scared me too. What a pansy.

Hubby and I were talking about the Colin Powell crap that the GOP should change and stop listening to RUSH, and Sarah Palin is this and that (all demeaning stuff)... WE COULD BE headed toward at the very least civil unrest and at the worst civil war in this Country, and the elitists like Powell, Gore, and others will have been the cause. The other stupid thing is...why pick a fight with US? It's just like back in the days of the British vs those bag of rag tag'ers...those "Americans" -- WE are the ones that can defend ourselves (like Gibson's character in "THE PATRIOT") and have a real cause and history of greatness, to defend. THEY are those that talk a good game, but they are all fluff, dishonesty, and corruption---and NO SUBSTANCE.

"Lord, forgive them, for they know NOT what they do," --comes to mind.

I guess it just proves that not all idiots are American “journalists.”

Because the White House had asked for the Secret Service to be in the back- therefore, they weren’t close to the front, or near the cretin who threw the shoes!

I think some Secret Service personnel are going to be recalled for some refresher training. White House requests or no, their job is to protect the President!

Jay Leno on Monday evening used this joke (that the shoe-thrower had been offered a show on MSNBC). Obvious plagiarism? Or just too obvious a joke?

Maybe he's got a staff member lurking on FR to find material for his monologue.

I’m sure that at least one Secret Service agent was about a second away from breaking the guy’s neck...

What makes you think that? It's obvious from the video that the Secret Service was slow to respond. Disgracefully so, in my opinion. The President's lead agent was too far away from GWB. The agent had to climb over people to get to his protectee. By that time, the incident was over and the President did his wave-off. If that "reporter" had thrown something other than shoes -- or if he had something lethal in those shoes -- GWB could have been seriously injured, or worse.

Suppose, for example, that the "reporter" had put heavy weights in the heels and toes, and one or both of the shoes had hit GWB in the eye or other vulnerable spot on his head? In such a scenario, the President could easily have suffered a fractured skull, maybe lost an eye or worse, his life.

What could have had a lot of propaganda value for the enemy, now has a lot of propaganda value for democracy. It couldn’t have turned out better.

Wow. I probably shouldn't be amazed at the delusion one so often sees here on FR, but I am in this instance. Nothing about this incident is good or valuable, beginning with the fact that it wasn't free speech, but assault.

The President's millions of domestic and foreign enemies were gleeful, because they see the incident as validating their hatred of this very decent human being. Those who insist on painting Iraq as a mistake (or worse) -- as a war separate from Afghanistan and all of the other fronts in the war against radical Islamism, also see this incident as validation.

President Bush handled the incident with his customary grace, dignity and dry humor. But all he got for it was further hatred and ridicule.
