Michelle Obama's Inaugural Gown by 26YO Gay Designer Jason Wu
The American fashion industry is obviously impressed with our new First Lady and her focus on bright, young designers.
The chic inaugural ensemble chosen by Michelle Obama was designed by Cuban American designer Isabel Toledo. That was blown away by last night's inaugural gown designed by Jason Wu, the 26-year-old openly gay Taiwanese-born fashion designer and the über-hottie who created the RuPaul Doll.
Booth Moore at the Los Angeles Times:
The gown is an unusual choice. Obama is wearing white in the winter and white at night. (President Obama's white bow tie and tux combo is even more unusual.)
The gown could even be a wedding dress.
But Michelle Obama is rewriting the fashion rules and she looks every inch the style icon she is becoming. The one-shouldered style is sexy and the powdery hue reflects the trends we saw on the Golden Globes red carpet.
And won't it look nice in the Smithsonian alongside the other first lady gowns?
Obama first wore Wu when she appeared on a Barbara Walters television interview wearing an adaptation of a silk sheath dress from his S/S 2009 collection. The hand-embroidered dress was a "confident departure from the relatively matronly skirt suits" of Oscar de la Renta and the usual suspects that have epitomized first lady attire for years.
"I believe her whole [message] is about newness, about change," Jason Wu tells The Advocate of Obamas style. "And what better way to represent that than from a fashion standpoint?"
Perfects 10s for Michelle Obama and Jason Wu.
funny...no metnion of cost considering they were all over Sarah Palin for the cost of her entire wardrobe....
she looked like she was wearing a nightgown. dressed incorrectly as usual.
Anyone who does not yet believe the unconcscious hostility of homosexuals toward women, just consider the crap they want to dress our women in.
I thought it looked more like a bedspread my grandma had.
Bump that! She looked dreadful. I want clothes designed by someone who likes women.
How much you wanna bet this is printed on his/her/its business card, too
I didn’t blow up the pic so I couldn’t really tell. Looked like she’d been out pickin’ cotton in her nightgown.
And....what did we expect from the O’Bama’s...???
“The gown could even be a wedding dress.’
or several rolls of wadded up toilet paper.
It did strike me as something that a drag queen would wear.
It had white puffballs all over it, and was far too long, and looked exactly like she’d cut it out of everyone’s grandmothers’ guest-room bedspreads and stuck it together with safety pins.
If you squint while you look at a picture of “her” I swear you can see the adams apple.
Where are the fashion police. I think they need to be pinged!
I’m naive - I honestly expected that with the whole world of clothes to choose from, they’d pick something that looked good. I was wrong.
The gown was so flattering that rumors have abounded concerning her baby bump.
There are clothes designers that aren’t gay?
No seriously, not gay...designs clothes...I’m just not getting it.
