The Curious Case of Liz Cheney
THE MODERATE VOICE ^ | 22 MAY 2009 | JAZZ SHAW

Posted on 05/23/2009 7:13:00 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one, because I’d begun to worry that the 2 to 3 Knob Creek to Folgers breakfast mixture was taking an early toll on me. Apparently it was not just my imagination, and as Steve Benen points out, Liz Cheney has been on virtually every television channel in the nation twenty-four hours per day for the last two weeks. I know that I personally caught her on CNN, Fox, ABC and MSNBC myself. And, as Benen points out, her visit to Morning Joe amounted to more than a guest interview.

That’s 12 appearances, in nine and a half days, spanning four networks. (On today’s “Morning Joe,” Liz Cheney was on for an entire hour — effectively becoming a co-host of the program.) And this is just television, and doesn’t include Liz Cheney’s interviews on radio or with print media.

The first thing to note here is that there is simply no valid criticism to be leveled at Liz Cheney for making these appearances. Like any other American who is interested in politics, she’s entitled to get out there on the soapbox and air her views with whoever will have her. And who doesn’t like defending their dad?

No, the real question here is what the networks are thinking, trotting out the daughter of a former VP this often and in such high profile appearances? After all, much like Hillary Clinton in 2000, what does she really have by way of credentials aside from her last name? Really not much more than John McCain’s daughter, aside from one position which she only got by virtue of her last name anyway. Yet both of them are being foisted off on the media consuming public like it was an exclusive interview with the Ghost of Elvis.

The major issue I have with Liz is her manners (or lack thereof) in the interview chair. Her appearance on Morning Joe, for example, was a classic example of the other spots she has done. A question is asked and Liz is given virtually forever to repeat the talking points issued by her father. Then a countering argument is asked for from another speaker. They manage to get three - or at most five - words out of their mouth and Liz jumps in, shouts them down, and begins parroting the same points over and over again. And the hosts pretty much uniformly fail to challenge her on her lack of understanding of debate. It’s like the worst of the abortion debates you’ve ever seen where the speakers just shout over and over, seeming to feel that their view will carry the day if only they can stop the other side from being heard at all.

As an aside to my Republican friends, I hear plenty of complaints about the young McCain daughter hitting the media circuits, but not so much about Liz eating up the air time.

What’s up, MSM folks? How is this a hot get for the morning circuit?

Yea, why can’t she be shy and demure? Or insipid like that Republican chick whose father ran for POTUS?

Uh "Jazz"...why don't you kindly peep the Wiki bio and get the facts before dismissing her as some bratty child.

WTG, Liz! You're getting under their skin, LOL! I've watched several interviews myself, and there were plenty of times when the liberal counterpoint (usually the host) started talking over LIZ as she was trying to make her points...I thought she had much nicer manners than many of those foaming at the mouth *cough*Laurence O'donnel*cough* who sputter and spit while attacking good people like Liz's dad!! Seems like there's a bit too much protesting going on here!! Are we watching a rebirth of the Republican party with Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, and Liz Cheney? Or the birth of a NEW CONSERVATIVE party??? I can't wait for 2010 to get here, and then 2012--I suspect we are going to see lots of fireworks, that's for sure! :-)

Ya, I think Liz has some actual credentials to her name. I think she worked in the State Dep’t??

Also, Liz is very mild mannered and graceful. I have not seen her shout anyone down. I have seen her take exception to the premise of questions, but done so in a respectful way. With a mild mannered voice, without any shouting.

This moron doesn’t come within three sigmas of Liz Cheney on the Bell Curve. It should simply respect it’s betters and try to cure it’s ignorance.

As far as I am concerned, the more Liz Cheney the better. She and her father are among the few who are talking sense. An articulate chip off the old block. I love it how she completely defeats and destroys those idiots who interview her. I saw her with some mentally challenged Leftwing female anchor and it was almost embarrassing. She’s Rome and they are Carthage. Defeated, burned to the ground and salted over.

How weak to whine about her credentials. Maybe he would prefer it if Dick Cheney were in her place? As ex VP he’s credentialed out the ying yang, so this “moderate voice” guy would be happy then, right?

Yeah, right.

And I wonder what makes this guy think he’s a “moderate”. Like most other moderates, he’s a liberal.

That's a great way of putting it. I heard her burn Lawrence O'Donnell to the ground the other day.

I think when Obama and Co. decided they might very well prosecute members of the Bush Adminstration they unleashed the Cheney’s. I think Obama and Co. got a lot more than they bargained for. I love the Cheney family.

Isn't Liz the lesbian daughter of the Chaney's? This would explain why she is given a lot of face time on television. Twenty five heterosexuals could say whatever it is she is saying and not get a minutes worth of face time or sound bite time.

I was going to post Liz Cheney's Wikipedia CV, but it is too long.

Maybe the "2 to 3 Knob Creek to Folgers breakfast mixture" is having an effect after all.

I think that Jazz just objects to seeing an articulate Republican on television.

Liz’s interviews have been great.

She should give classes on how to defeat liberal hosts and others who try to trap her with loaded questions.

Other Republican leaders are wimps compared to her.

Liz Cheney has a law degree from the University of Chicago, and was employed as an official by the State Department. She is extremely knowledgeable and does an excellent job in representing the Bush administration’s accomplishments and policies on the WOT.

Too bad the writer of this article can’t appreciate this fact. How would SHE act if her father and his work were attacked to the extent that Ms. Cheney’s dad has been maligned? Liz is holding back and IS polite, IMO.

And besides the fact that Liz and Meghan McCain are both daughters of famous people, they have NOTHING in common. Meghan’s dad was NOT elected by the people; Liz Cheney’s dad was.

Personally, I am very thankful both Cheney and his daughter are speaking out. They both have grace under pressure during interviews.
Americans need to hear them as they counter much of the “spin”.

For starters, she isn't a complete loser like McCain's daughter. Second, I think it is rich for a liberal to put down the "debating" skills of a non-liberal. Liberals shout over anyone that disagrees with them, as was the case in the O'Donnell-Cheney interview the other day. After seeing what the Left did to Palin and now Ms. Cheney, it looks to me as if liberals hate strong women. Or maybe strong conservative women.

Dhimmicrats have “mommy” issues and cannot abide a strong woman (especially a strong Conservative woman).

Liz Cheney is quite qualified as is Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.

2010 and 2012 are going to be the years when the Conservative Women get elected to office. Thank goodness Conservative men are comfortable around strong Conservative women.

the lamestream media is going to keep
Bush-Cheney et.al. in the spotlite,
just to keep people’s attention
on Republican dirty laundry.

and to keep people’s attention off of legitamate
political debate, and away from giving attention
to up and coming GOP candidates.

with that said, I don’t have a good suggestion
as to how the former B.C. administration should.
defend itself.

THANK GOD someone is finally refuting RAT lies that have gone unchallenged for 8 years.

I think Dick Cheney knows how to defend the previous administration very effectively and his efforts are tying the current administration in knots. And, I don’t think Cheney is done yet, do you? Aren’t you happy?

A question is asked and Liz is given virtually forever

Assuming the interviewer is an adult, that person should be able to act as an interviewer and ask another question. Sounds more like an indictment of the interviewer than the interviewee.
