Will Presidential Over-Reach Doom ObamaCare?
Weekly Standard/The Lid ^ | 6/13/09 | The Lid

Posted on 06/13/2009 7:52:01 PM PDT by Shellybenoit

Last Week, President Obama made a proposal that if passed will doom us all to US Government Run Health Care

“I strongly believe that Americans should have the choice of a public health insurance option operating alongside private plans,” Obama wrote. “This will give them a better range of choices, make the health care market more competitive, and keep insurance companies honest.”

Obama says public health insurance operating alongside private plans, but that is not really the truth. If You have a group of competitors, one is the government with virtually unlimited resources so they can keep its prices artificially low--how long before the government's competition is struggling for customers. Eventually you will end up with ONE insurance company named Uncle Sam. And when your good Uncle Sam wants to save some money, he will start making bureaucratic, rather then medical decisions about your health. Mom wont get that treatment to save her life because it is expensive, or Uncle Sam will determine when to pull the plug on grandma.

Even some Democratic party congressmen are getting a bit nervous with the President's latest demand. Will the request of a government-owned health insurance company end up being the over-reach that slows down ObamaCare?

"...and keep insurance companies honest.”

Now, if we Americans could come up with a way to keep OUR government honest.

“And when your good Uncle Sam wants to save some money, he will start making bureaucratic, rather then medical decisions about your health.”

Like, man, an insurer wouldn’t do that! Only the gubmint.

“”If You have a group of competitors, one is the government with virtually unlimited resources so they can keep its prices artificially low—how long before the government’s competition is struggling for customers.””

This is pretty creative. Probably some alcohol involved, needed after the wide spread and lucid comments from insurers that they cannot compete with the government who doesn’t have the exec pay + bonus, shareholder, advertising and other costs. Nothing to do with “low prices”—the government “option” is not ownership of treaters (like HMOs), it’s straight insurance.

The whole plan is the “government option”. The bill uses police powers to capture clients for the private insurers, plus some extra wealth spreading...with insurers benefiting again. The “government option” is really the “option” without the unnecessary expenses of private insurance executive salaries and bonuses and such.

A month ago I thought we were doomed. Now I think we have a chance. The polls show that the public is losing confidence in Obama’s ability to handle the economy, and I think it will spill over into his ability to manage healthcare.

Sherm, what you seem to miss here is that what would be lost is the right to go it on your own; No Gvvt, no Insurance Co.

If obummer wins, we pay $24,000 per year for nothing forever.

It’s Fabian socialized medicine, and Obama could hardly be more deceitful about it. I sorely want to see him exposed on it.

Doesn’t Obama have his hands full running car companies and keeping track of Porkulus? Why doesn’t he wait until other big projects are under control before he decides he has to tackle another of the biggest areas of our economy?

We did, it’s called the Second Amendment... though the government has drilled it through everyone’s skulls that killing politicians and bureaucrats is fundamentally wrong, no matter how unrepentantly corrupt and incompetent they may be.

Also note that such armed insurrection is NOT levying war on the United States (treason).

It is very much in-line with Franklin’s suggestion that our national animal be the rattlesnake:
- who never strikes w/o provocation
- who is ever vigilant (no eyelids)
- and who gives ample warning as to not be the aggressor.

But many people would disagree with my assessment here, let me ask though, when we have a Congress that keeps suggesting contra-constitutional actions, an executive branch whose actions are constantly overreaching the limits set thereupon by the Constitution (and whose attitude towards criticism/disagreement can be adequately described by the philosophy “might makes right”), AND a Judiciary who does NOT recognize property rights (Kelo v. New London) OR bankruptcy/contract law (refusing to hear the GM/Chrysler case); how can such possibly be held to account?

It is the problem of the unjust-judge, in a way.

No, I do. I should be clearer. I think we should do nothing.

All the insiders who seem to know say this bill is Romneycare, basically—if you refuse to buy insurance, you become a criminal.

"if you refuse to buy insurance, you become a criminal."

Exactly! - Its just a massive tax, way bigger than the income tax.

If Obamacare cannot be stopped, start investing in funeral homes. It will be the only good investment as many will be encouraged to forego treatment for the “good of their families”.

We really want our health care brought to us by the same folks who work at the Post Office. If you hate getting pre-authorized for a procedure, then find out your insurance cmpany won’t pay after you have the procedure, wait till some uncaring GOVERNMENT employee does it to you, with the obligatory “have a nice Obama Day”. That is if you can withstand the wait for the procedure in the first place. Maybe Obama can institute a mandatory exercise program for those who have to wait in a line....

For the chronically ill,the elderly, the handicapped and certainly anyone with catastrophic illness,sub-standard,rationed “Obamacare” is a DEATH SENTENCE!!!
That Freepers,is the bottom line!
When patients are told by their doctors that they need a diagnostic and or surgical procedure performed and one of Obama’s bureaucrats says they can’t have it because A,it is too expensive,or B,they are too old & won’t be around much longer anyway or whatever excuse is used to deny the procedure, the true nature of this evil administration will become apparent. For what they will allow,we will be placed on a waiting list until we are either dead,or so far gone that it won’t make any difference. Had Ted Kennedy been given such “care” he would certainly be dead now. But of course the “Liberal Elites” will receive state of the art at places like Mass.General & Bethesda while the rest of us are on those lists,or simply sent home to die!!! This is the reason why British and Canadian patients come here, and why their respective governments are in the process of adopting our present system!
When the Democrats control health care, our lives will literally be in the hands of those who will stop at nothing, for the aquisition of power.
May God help us all!
