Or we collapse all right...then the wrong sort of people get into power...say a Julius Ceasar type and we become Rome. With nuclear bombs, lazers and space technology...the country gets realigned along fascist principles and the enviros get snuffed out. We thumb our noses at international debts and re-organize businesses along NAZI type lines and all of our resources then start to get retapped...but we will no longer be a republic...but perhaps a terrible beast that “rises out of the sea”

A society like ours that collapses...but still in possession of Nuclear weapons and feeling cornered like a rat...Canada and Mexico would then be the first to be swallowed up by us when we go truly imperialist!

Not so farfetched...Biden spoke of our troops being a part of “peace enforcement missions” in many parts of the world during the debates. And why in the name of banana’s do we have a “US African Command military structure? We have military all over this world in various strengths, numbers and missions. Play upon Americans’ desparation and these various military structures suddenly become like strategically placed chess pieces ready to strike...especially if the “wrong sort” of evil person takes over. This person will not be a dumb as rock Obama, but perhaps unearthly intelligent and inexorably magnetic...

Yes our nation could collapse, but it still has power to project force and still with a crash build progam rebuild its infrastructure...the question is...can enough good people come together to ensure our nation remains a republic? Or do we bcome the nightmare of the entire world? That is what I really fear and I really fear that an unearthly sort of person will take advantage of our fears, lack of faith, and weakness!

It might come sooner than you think.

China announced today that they will buy more gold, lots and lots of it. This will drive the dollar even lower.

Housing markets will crash around mid year and with over half the mortgages deep under water, most defaults will just walk away with no hope of recovery. That should start the first Domino moving. The second to fall will be small business, manufacturing, mass unemployment will follow. GDP will drop below 2%.

You heard it here first folks, but chairman MaObama and Ben Burn-yank-me will flood the economy and state treasuries with massive bailout money, (Fresh ink worth more than the paper) and China will pull their support.

Time to get debt free, buy lots of rice, ammo and Gold. A few acres in the country with a good cow and horse would not hurt either. Gardening will also be your best friend.

"Soon the whole country looks like the ghetto with dollar stores, pawn shops and liquor stores and everything else boarded up"

What you are describing is a Depression. I believe what we face is much more insipid. A 30-year slide into economic misery. An end of our military might because we cannot afford it. Other countries will lead the world ... South America, etc. I guess the Apocalypse Theory of economics is alive and well. What university is teaching this theory? Where did you learn it?

The solution is even simpler than land backed currency.

Just coin gold and silver again as money with a face value of the coinage being much higher than the current market price of the metal with which it is made.

The government also collects the seignorage between the difference in the market price of the gold or silver and what the dollar amount is that the mint stamps on the coinage.

If you had one ounce of gold in Roman times, you could buy a new toga, a new pair of sandals, and a sidearm (a sword.)

Today, one ounce of gold will buy a new Brooks Brothers suit, Bally wingtips, and a sidearm (SigSauer pistol).

Gold and silver have intrinsic value; meaning that they are not dependent on a promise to make good. Gold and silver as money are an excellent store of value and as a means of exchange (so we don’t have to barter).

Paper money is NOT wealth; it is merely a CLAIM on wealth.

All of our so-called ‘assets’ today are simply a debt obligation for one individual to pay another.

‘PAPER....PAPER....There is no gold in Acaba..NO GREAT BOX.
Lawrence promised gold....Lawrence lied...’

That’s the problem. We don’t just have a cadre that is doing this, but the entire nation is sucking the country dry. If it were a cadre, then we could throw them out, but the problem is grassroots.

The U.S. would rebound immediately if it dumped Social Security and all the the other subsidies and entitlements killing us with debt and taxes, but I'll never bet on the lazy, greedy fools of America doing that.

When we finally enacted welfare "reform" it save lots of money, taxpayer money. The Feds and the States did NOT want to give that money back to the taxpayer and decided the way to get away with spending it was to increase the number of children eligible for health care. Thus CHIP was born. I was there and saw it all happen.

My point is this, the bureaucrats from your local to the federal level are not going to give up a dime of your money.

It might be 30 years.

I didn’t learn it. I read too much.
