All of the ammo on the planet is worthless without the will and the skill to use it effectively.
That being said I consider 5K per rifle caliber, 2K per pistol caliber, 1K assorted shotgun loads, and about 10K .22.LR rifle rounds to be the minimum one should have laying about.
Those numbers are per person in the household.
Why? It helps me sleep at night. That's why.

For those without a rifleman's training, get thee to an Appleseed event taco pronto. It's all about skill and motivation. At an Appleseed, those of us without tsuch training will hopefully begin to acquire both.
