Frankly, I don’t care. Crosshairs or what...it doesn’t matter. Everyone uses the term “targeting seats” for defeat. Don’t back down, stick with crosshairs.

Who would expect the media to understand details when they fell for the fake “th” in the CBS faked story. Good ole FR keeping ‘em honest. Just how many experts are their on FR anyway? :)

The point is, that the Left is hyperventilating that she did, when it's clear she didn't. Now I wouldn't care if she actually used cross-hairs too, but the Left got all bent out of shape over nothing. It just goes to show you the vehement hatred the Left has over her.

Post would be a good deal more convincing with a couple of links to sites showing the meaning of the symbol as used on maps.

I’ve used all kinds of maps for half a century and it’s not one I’m familiar with.

The only place I’ve found it on line is as a symbol used to show where surveyors should place themselves while working around traffic.

IOW, it’s a symbol for a surveyor, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in Sarah’s graphic. OTOH, it’s pretty obviously not crosshairs.

If anybody has other examples of its use, I’d like to see it.

Since some people are weak willed, spineless, pc driven individuals, is the store known as Target going to have to change its name? Seems like that’s what is going to happen if you were to expand “their” sick and twisted logic to its illogical conclusion. What a crock of cr@p!

Oh No! DNC said RNC was in the crosshairs:)

Republican National Committee spokesman Doug Heye, in defending RNC Chairman Michael Steele during a Fox News interview, likened criticism of the RNC’s expenditures at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub in California, to a Democratic National Committee expense at Josephine, a bar and lounge in Washington.

Democrats booked Josephine for a staff Christmas party in December and spent $5,850 to rent the club for three hours. An event marketing manager at the club said between 150 and 200 attended the event.

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse confirmed the expenditure, and said the party included a talent competition, was strictly for staff and that no fundraising was conducted there.

Woodhouse argued the RNC is highlighting the expense because, “They’re in the crosshairs and now they want to attack someone else.”

As David Horowitz has pointed out the left raises an issue that is not the issue. The issue is not the issue.

I take that to mean "issues" are weapons. The left has only one ISSUE, total dominance.

It is stupid to be suckered into this cross-hair crap. You cannot debate a fake issue. The left does not care.. it's moved on and come up with several other "issues."

Conservatives are swamped trying to respond to every unanswerable accusation. It's stupid.

Casey McNulty

A protest at the Latham Target store has shut it down for an “undetermined period of time,” according to officials at the Latham Police Dept.

The protest began at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the front of the store when about 100 protester who object to the stores logo attempted to block people from entering the store.

The group that calls itself The Alliance to Stop Gun Violence in Latham says the stores logo promotes gun violence. The group hopes its movement will be taken up nationwide.

The manager at the store said he did not know how long it would take the corporate offices to respond but that he had directed employees from the bedding departmet to use blankets to temporarily cover the stores logo.

There were no injuries. Protestors allowed customers to enter the store after the logo had been covered up.

(Before this story goes any further...this is a spoof.)

I used to work helping an engineering team make maps with transparant overlays for filing cellular tower applications with the FCC. Before we switched to digital mapping with computers and GIS software, we’d use plotter printed vellum overlayed on various scales of USGS maps.

We used the “crosshair” symbol as a marker for existing and proposed cell towers.

Wouldn’t it be great if for once Michael Steele could take the attack dog role that Democrat Party chairs take and get out all over the media, demanding apologies for the wrongly smeared tea party and Palin?

Oh, wait—he’s busy defending the party’s questionable expenditures under his watch. Never mind.

Sorry for commenting on an old but unfortunately very up to date thread.

Although the MSM in the US seems to has silenced down once it turned out that the shooter in Arizona turned out not to be tied to the Tea Party, but instead appears to be a left wing anarcho psychotic. Psychotic being the operative word here.

However, not so the MSM in Europe. It is an anti-tea party, anti-Palin hate fest over here now. So much so that it appears that the foremerly readable The Daily Telegraph has got involved in some "tricks".

Comapare these two pics; the first one in this piece from the DT:

Gabrielle Gifford's father: The whole Tea Party were her enemies.

and this one from Sarah Palin's Facebook Page:

Lets not forget as well that the guy is a self admitted homosexual who was denied entry into military service.

In short, he demonstrates that he is every thing other than a right wing Republican, and that its high time we start looking at homosexuals like Loughner, Pfc. Bradley Manning, and Barney Frank as threats to public safety and national security.

Incredible. They seem to have modified the markers to make them look more like rife scopes. Is it possible that that version of the graphic appears on another part of Palin’s website? If not, that is a stunning example of a news organization tampering with the facts.

It doesn’t matter. No one knows what a surveyor mark is, everyone know what crosshairs look like, and whoever made that image knew what the perception of those icons would be: targets. It doesn’t mean they were inciting any violence, but don’t run around saying that the image is something else based on a technicality.

If you are using Mac press ctrl and click on the pic in Daily Telegraph, chose "show source". If you are using PC I think one could right click and get the same thing. Anyway, reading through the source script I find that the image posted has the following address:

src="http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01799/palin_1799720c.jpg

Thus, it is not directly linked form the Facebook page but stored in DT multimedia archive.

The image looks like this. I know what I think.....

Yes, the first paper you linked seems to have added rings (the second one is so faint I can’t tell). Between them and the English paper, hat’s two instances of news orgs flagrantly doctoring the facts. I wonder how many Europeans realize how propagandized they are.

There is a video at one of the papers about a candlelight vigil the Swedes are holding for Gifford. That’s kind of a nice gesture except that I know (or strongly suspect) they wouldn’t be doing it if not for the Palin/Tea Party aspect. As a victim of the American right (so the bogus narrative goes), Gifford has now entered into that special kind of victim status that can compel this kind of public display from Europeans. She is a victim of backwards nationalism, the common devil in secular postmodern Europe. Thus they can light candles and wear sad faces and all of that.

Hmm, Howard Kurtz used that same image in this piece criticizing the left for politicizing the shootings:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2011-01-08/gabrielle-giffords-shooting-dont-blame-sarah-palin/?cid=hp:mainpromo3

He certainly had no reason to use a doctored image. I’m thinking it must have appeared on Palin’s site somewhere.

Yes, the “hairs” of a crosshair do NOT extend past the diameter of the scope.

But “cross-hairs” vs “bulls-eye”; it is the ludicrous stance that it is OK when they do it, but incitement to violence when we do it that must be taken down a notch, not just the “they were not REALLY crosshairs” defense.

I actually find this line of argument disingenuous. While I agree that the marks used on the map do not correspond to the reticle used in most types of telescopic sights, some sights do have a circle around the point where the crosshairs meet.

Nor does the standard surveyors mark have a shaded circle. It looks, well, just like the style of reticle I just described without the bounding circle of the scope.

Actually, I think the images were meant to be stylized versions of the sort of rifle target with a shaded center and scoring numbers printed in a cross shape radially from the center.
