The Tea Party Endorsement That Wasn't
Voices.WASHINGTON POST.com ^ | April 20, 2010; 1:34 PM ET | By David Weigel

SNIPPET: "The Tea Party Express's endorsement of Rep. Walt Minnick (D-Idaho) has had little real political impact so far. After the endorsement, TPE's Sal Russo couldn't tell when we might see, say, a TV ad or mailer for Minnick -- although Mark Williams claimed that the group had planned to run ads supportive of Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) until he decided to support the final version of health-care reform.

So what impact have we seen? A vast and efficient cheesing-off of tea party groups in Idaho."

“Make way for the Tea Party Express”
By Andrew Ian Dodge | Published: 04/20/10 at 12:16 AM

SNIPPET: “In a move, that is no doubt based on the Tea Party Express’ desire to be seen as non-partisan rather than merely a Republican front, they have endorsed one lone Democrat. The trouble with their selection is that he seems to be a rather odd choice. Why Walt Minnick was chosen seems to be a mystery to both Tea Party members and Democrats alike.”

SNIPPET: “But Minnick hardly has a Republican in Name Only as an opponent. Vaughn Ward’s website makes it very clear that this veteran is not from the centrist wing of the Republican party. He states clearly his beliefs. They read like the laundry list that would unite tea party people behind him. “Stop Tax Increases, Eliminate Wasteful Spending, Repeal and Replace the Health Care Bill, Defend our 2nd Amendment Rights, Secure Our Borders,No Amnesty.””

SNIPPET: “Tea Party Boise does not endorse Mr. Minnick or any candidate from any party at this time. Tea Party Express would be well advised to talk to those in Idaho who cast the votes.

Tea Party Patriots coordinator for Idaho said the following:

“… I am very disappointed and have requested an explanation. Minnick is no Conservative and I’ve been in touch with TP folks on his side of the state when they have had repeated demonstrations at his offices. He’s only voted with “us” because we hold his feet to the fire! So, I am not in agreement.”

Maybe Tea Party Express will explain their choice in that Idaho district to help with any confusion that tea party observers might be suffering. There are a lot of frankly befuddled Republicans, tea partiers and Idahoans that deserve an explanation why this race was singled out for such a spot of bizarre meddling.”

The Tea Party Express is watering sown the milk by endorsing token Democrats. Democrats vote for Nanzi Pelousy to ram her leftwing agenda through as Speaker, which is enough by itself to disqualify any endorsement from any true patriot anywhere.

I kind of see the Tea Party Express as running counter to the spirit of the Tea Party movement. It is supposed to be about locals taking back their representation from the Washington political machine. How does a Washington based national group run by the former Majority Leader that makes political decisions based on what would appease the Washington Post fit into that? It doesn’t, really.

OPINION: The Tea Party Express made a serious mistake in not looking at what the Idaho Republican candidates stand for.

Only the Tea Party Express can rectify their mistake and/or stand by their mistake and support their candidate.

‘Nuff said about my opinion. The background link explores the issue in depth.

Everybody send the message to the Tea Party Express. “Stay out of primary elections. You do not know the local issues or candidates.” TPE is good at keeping the people fired up. That is what they should do. The people will take care of the local voting.

tea party express is nothing but a website that opportunistically sucked up the name. Period. So a website endorsed somebody. Whooppeeeee.

It is impossible for the Tea Party itself (whatever that is) to endorse anybody, because it is a fluid, disparate demonstration of Constitutional devotion, nothing more.

It irritates me whenever someone pretends to speak for the phenomenon, or to assert leadership over it.
