I think I did something really stupid. I was messing around in the admin. settings and I was listed as the admin and do not have a password to get into anything because my computer is at home.
I changed myself from admin to regular user or whatever it was called and now I am unable to change back to admin. It asks me for a password and when I attempted to put one in, it said it was a bad password.
I do not want passwords.
I need some help getting out of that mess, too.

I don’t know if Vista is like XP, but if you want to set your administrator account to default, the do this.
Right click ‘My Computer’ and click ‘properties’.
Click ‘advanced’.
Click ‘settings’ under ‘User Profiles’.
Click on the user name you set up.
Click ‘delete’.
Reboot.
You should now be administrator by default.
it won’t let me. i need a password for that and then another pop-up called RA Media comes up and asks for password.

should i enter a password for my name now in case it goes into a sleep mode. i was under the impression it would need a password to awaken. advise please.

Pick a date when everything worked fine and see if it will set itself back
so do a system restore?
It will not allow me as it asks for an admin password!!
I had a problem a few years ago getting into a Windows 2000 system. I found a free password cracker that did the job. It worked on everything up to Win XP - don’t know if it will work w/Vista or Win 7.
It is called Bootdisk and you create a boot disk [Linux-based]. Then, you shut down the computer, insert the disk, and turn on. Bootdisk then starts the computer in Linux and runs its program - follow the instructions and it will re-set the password to nothing [that is, if you get a password prompt the next time you boot up - hit Enter]. Then, you shut the computer down, remove the disk, and re-boot.
Windows will then start up. Then, you need to change your Admin rights ...

I am not computer savvy when it comes to booting, etc. I am very hesitant to try anything.

Ok.. Short of getting a ‘password recovery’ program, I’m not sure what else you can do other than trying to remember what password you typed in when you set up the account.
Are you sure you don’t have a virus?
There are a few out there that change your logon password and lock you out of the system.
Even doing an ‘Repair install’ will not fix this.

Even with a Password recovery or reset program, you need to burn a CD to use it. If you have no access to another computer, then you aren’t going to have any luck short of loading up an old DOS program to burn it. That’s if you can find one.
Any friends or family members who might be able to help?
If not, then a computer shop could do it for you for a fee.
Do you remember each step you took when you set up the new user account?
It might help to figure out where a ‘password’ got entered.
A google search has alot of results.
You might check a few of them to see if they point you in the right direction.

Ok.. Here’s one more thing you can try.
When you boot up and get to the logon screen, hit ‘Ctrl-Alt-Delete’ twice! (2 times)
It will take you to the traditional logon on screen and ask for User and and password.
Type ‘Administrator’ and hit enter twice.
It should take you to windows where you can change User passwords.
