A picture is worth a thousand words and this once certainly speaks volumes.
I have to watch myself here. After declaring top kill a success (which came back to bite me in the ass) I am again poised to report the latest B.P. attempt to stop the Gulf oil Leak a success.
I am cautiously optimistic as they have at least temporarily sealed the leak. The following report comes from NorthEscambia.Com
BP says that the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico has been stopped for the first time since the spill began in April.
The announcement came after all of the valves were shut Thursday afternoon on a new cap placed on the well earlier this week. According to BP, this is a not a permanent fix. A long-term solution will come in the form of relief wells being drilled to plug the leaking well below the sea floor with concrete.
It felt very good not to see any oil going into the Gulf of Mexico, said BP Senior Vice President Kent Wells during a briefing. What Im trying to do is maintain my emotions. This is the start of our test.

they could have in 2 days this was planned open face bold face corruption in plain sight
I hope it holds so that the efforts can be spent on cleaning up what’s already in the Gulf.
Just heard Zero on the Radio taking credit for everything...
SHAMELESS

You do have to wonder why BP didn’t just snip the junk away and stick another BOP on top of the first one don’t you ... You would think from the start that would be the emergency plan in the event of BOP failure.
If this was not in their plan if the BOP failed, then how stupid are they.
There was another thread today suggesting that the pressure of the escaping oil stream was about 8000 PSI.
That's about 27 times more powerful than a fire hose... Any suggestion starting with "just" doesn't apply in such cases.
The only thing this Administration did was delay, obstruct, extort and lie...
This layman, admittedly quite ignorant on oil wells, doesn’t understand why this wasn’t the first thing tried?

Whats with this WE business? O' you did nothing and why wait until tomorrow to begin the great "I DID IT". Perhaps the teleprompter has not "thunk" of a proper spin.
Anyway: this is a great day for all of us, with that thing capped. Hats off to BP, lets all give them credit for something good.
The pipe industry has been dealing with 10,000 psi pipe and flanges since 1949. Don’t let the BP people pull a fast one on you.

It has been thoroughly documented that BP has screwed this operation up. They were totally unprepared for any failures or disasters. And they told the government they WERE prepared and had to file documentation as to what they would do.
BP needs to be explaining why this fix was not started on Day 1.
My nephew told me they should just put a wedding ring around it and it would quit putting out. He said that worked in his life.
But the problem of trying to cap a high-pressure stream like that, under that much water, is not remotely trivial.
It's not the same as drilling a clean well -- it's like trying to screw a cap onto an operational firehose .... times 27.
That is priceless. Your son should go into comedy.
They are doing some hard stuff. No doubt.
But, don’t get to carried away with BP’s superlatives and hyperbole.
Example?
“We’re operating at 5,000, deeper than anyone has ever worked before. We have to use robots it is so deep.”
Well guess what, any depth over about 500 ft requires full robot service. It’s a robot. 500 or 5,000 isn’t that big a deal.
The weight of the pipe in deep water is a big deal. And someother things are a bit harder. But, this is not way out of the normal realm of undersea drilling. This is merely at the edge.
Also, this is not the first time that drillers have ever seen this kind of pressure.
My fear right now is that BP will finally get things under a better semblance of control, the news media will forget about this, and then BP will pack up and leave town as quick as possible leaving the residents of the Gulf Coast high an dry.
"I've just come up from scouring the Gulf floor, and I can declare that BARACK PLUGGED THE D*MN HOLE!"
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the “We” part is what made me start smashing buttons on my Radio.... aaaggghhhhh
I just must be a racist cause I can’t wrap my mind around this LIE
If BP rolls for this crap I’m so totally in battle/rumble mode ....
Just one tree hugger... just ONE
I used to just let them spout... cause you can’t change their minds but damn this! Even the freaks should be able to see what is happening. ...

For something like this I think the big deal is that you haven't got anything to brace against when you're floating in water.
Also, this is not the first time that drillers have ever seen this kind of pressure.
Probably not. But have they tried to cap a gusher like that under water?
ADMIRAL ALLEN: Not necessarily, what we're going to do is we're going to test for 48 hours, and every six hours, we're going to evaluate all of the information we have available. At the end of 48 hours, we're going to take down the system, go back to containment, or production, as you say, and then we're going to get a new seismic reading off the floor that will tell us as a result of that testing at high pressure for 48 hours, was there a change in the well bore, or did we have oil leak into the formation and form a pocket just to be a precursor for breaching the ocean floor? Is there methane gas coming up, which would be a precursor as well.
Once we are satisfied that there are no indications that we've compromised the integrity of the wellbore, we create an irreversible position of oil leaving the well bore, we can go back then and put theput the system under pressure again. Then once we'reonce we're convinced, we've got no pressure in the well bore, and it can withstand the pressure after another seismic run, after that 48 hours, we can certainly consider shutting in the well, that's always a possibility, and of course, we would like to do that.
