Sarah Palins going to run for president.
She is running. Hers is the most long-term dedicated campaign since Ronald Reagan left the governorship of California in 1975 and became a full-time presidential aspirant.
Notably, the very act of running doesnt cost her resources, but creates resources for her. Shes self-sustaining. Every day her organization builds and her reach expands. The more she runs the more inevitable she is.
In a nutshell, the system, meant to filter out the oddballs, has allowed one in. Never before has someone so outside the mainstream of political conventions had such good national prospects. Shes a classic third-party candidate who, given the organizational benefits of an early and dedicated candidacy, the fundraising advantages of a narrowly targeted base, and the boon of her preternatural access to the media, might easily become a major party candidate. And, given the Republican partys built-in near-50% share of the voting public, shes as likely to become the next president as anyone.
Many things could, of course, derail her. Not least of all if the opposition comes up with a way to effectively characterize her distance from political norms. So far this has been a problem, though, because part of her attractiveness is that distance, and, too, she is distant in ways that are themselves not normal and hard to characterize. Her extremism is not so much fanatical as it is kookyor even comical. The worst thing that can be said about her, so far, is that she is not too smartwily, but dumb. In a nation that, arguably, has become progressively dumber (or, at least, less interested in what used to be considered smart), this isnt much of a liability. The real annoyance, even perhaps more than her inchoate conservatism (arguably, no more inchoate than George Bushs), is her tastelessness. That, too, is hard for the opposition to expressother than in a fumfering way.
The threat for her is that the Republican establishment, which finds her as dumb and tasteless as the Democrats do, will come up with some stolid figure of conservative probity. But saying it that way highlights the problem of competing against an original, vivid, and always engaging outsider. Possibly a Republican congressional sweep will give the Republican mainstream new resolve. But, as likely, Sarah Palin will take credit for that successand she might deserve it.
Its happening, which is extraordinary.
She was wonderful on Hannity last night!
preternatural access to the mediaHow about the Left's preternatural predilection to attack Palin?
I love Sarah Palin but she’ll lose on the National ticket. The Repubs have to be smarter with who they chose, even though I personally think she’s great.
Meant to sow discord in the Republican party but we too dumb to know what Vanity unFair is up to. dawk!
Well, they still think she’s kooky, dumb, and tasteless, but they think the same about two-thirds of America too. What’s different now is that Obama is on the skids and they can actually see her succeeding. And they are aware of the fact that their disdain only makes her shine brighter than ever.
Americans like candidates they've never heard of before so they can imagine the candidate is just like them. Like it or not Palin has been defined. She is definitely the king-maker but I'm not sure she can maker herself king.
Severe case of PDS.
They say that about all conservatives ;)
REAL American, over 35, 14 years+ living in America
Fearless, guts, real conservative, patriot...
I personally think she's great, too. By my kind of thinking she's "great" finds her the best possible candidate to run this country for the next four years after O'Bunga. Because four years of just another run-of-the-mill, gutless, go-along-to-get-along, socialist-lite GOP hack just won't cut it any more.
I guess mine is a sincere "I think she's great."
Know what I mean?
Olberman butt boy speaks...leftwing propaganda comes out.
WTF language is he using?
Inchoate: just begun and so not fully formed or developed; rudimentary
fumfering: Help me out somebody, I got nothing.
Yup. Just like old "Bedtime for Bonzo" Ronnie Reagan was "defined," ridiculed and reviled by the left. Poor li'l ole Palin just hasn't got a chance...
< snickering at the boobs >
Not sure I agree. Presidential elections aren't really "national" elections per se, even though the MSM seems to think it is. Keep in mind there were seven states that Obama won in 08 that Bush won in 00 and 04. (NV, CO, IN, OH, VA, NC, and FL). Unless something really strange happens, there's where the Presidency will be won or lost. Can Palin win those states? I could be wrong, but I think it's certainly possible.
ACORN is gone so they won't have those criminal's to help them..the only one would be the black panthers, but we could put some really big guys at every poll these idiots go to,it would scare the crap out of the skinny idiots..they would need more than a billy club to scare someone..Oh and make sure you escort your mama and granny and papa's not let the fools scare them..
The Left is powerless as is the Establishment to stop this from happening.
...and so are the Mittens Kittens on here lol.
Yeah, everyone uses the Reagan analogy. Reagan ran for president three times before being elected in a very different world. Reagan had considerable public relations skills and I don’t remember his embarrassing child being in the media all the time. You could be right or you could be wrong about her being the next Reagan. Either way I’d hold the mockery if you want to convince people who are even the slightest skeptical. Reagan’s people didn’t do that.
Someone got a Thesaurus for his birthday!
Using big words actually doesn’t impress those with a large vocabulary. Someone should teach that. Maybe in Journalism classes.
But it's Vanity Fair (sniff). Insecure intellectuals love big words.
In a nutshell, the system, meant to filter out the oddballs, has allowed one in.
Lucid? I think not.
WTF language is he using?
I suppose that if you're an envious little editor of an insignificant rag, and you must bring down someone so much more accomplished than you, then you must attempt to display your superiority SOMEHOW?
Uh, you don't remember Ron Reagan and Patti Davis? Seriously?
I didn’t say 100% lucid or pro-Palin. But he knows she has a Hell of a shot at the White House and isn’t denying that she knows the alphabet and counting like 95% of the jourbalists...
I'm not trying to "convince people."
Anyone who by now actually doesn't see that Sarah Palin is our one chance out of this mess isn't about to suddenly grow a brain as a result of some genteel witticism from me. I say what I say so that when she wins in a landslide in 2012, I can pull all these self-archived posts out of my 1-terabyte-usb disc and rub your silly, petulant ostrich-beaks in it.
So chill, mango. It's all good!
Fumfer is Yiddish meaning “to mumble”. So someone who is fumfering is someone who is mumbling alot.
“Severe case of PDS.”
There is a lot of that going around. Those suffering from this dreaded condition, seem to feed off each other, because they know they are failing in their recruitment efforts.
Picking up a few lib techniques, many have modified their pitch with hollow preludes such as, “I love her, but.... trash, trash, trash” and so on. With all the straw-men arguments that litter the pages of FR lately, I could feed a very large herd. Well, you don’t really feed them straw, by the term isn’t hay-man. LOL
If Palin want’s to become the President, she will. Those that helped her along the way, can be proud of their efforts. The others can rant until their brains fall out for all I care.
Palin 2012..... Failure is not an option. America must survive.
I was young and fell for that one. But I am older and wiser...Sarah has three things you just don't find often in politics...guts ...cajones...and character....
I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind. I was wrong! Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she. And what a she! This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP. Welcome back, Dad, even if you're wearing a dress and bearing children this time around.
~Michael Reagan, syndicated conservative talk show host and son of President Ronald Reagan
I remember them quite a lot AFTER the election. Sure they were around before but there was much less media to trumpet their every idiocy. Besides they were more “sophisticated” and much more acceptable to the NY and LA media so they weren’t ridiculed as country bumpkin rubes. I’m not saying Palin can’t overcome those challenges in time but most people only heard of Palin...what 2 years ago? People knew Reagan for years and years so the Bedtime for Bonzo stuff just didn’t stick because he’d made many, many movies and was politically active for years before running for the third time and succeeding. Look, if she wins the nomination I’ll vote for her but I’m just trying to look at it objectively instead of just drinking the kool aid for her or just shooting her down because I’m supporting someone else (which I’m not).
I personally think shes great too, only one way to go now and that is up after Obama.Alvin Green could do a better job than Obama.
I think she realizes that; that’s why she dumped elective politics and moved to the rubber-chicken and publishing side.
“The threat for her is that the Republican establishment, will come up with some stolid figure of conservative probity.”
The Journolist just received its marching orders....to help the pubbies along in this regard...
I do not dislike Palin. Really. But I just don’t see this happening.
Her voice and manner of speech would drive most people bonkers over time. Petty? Yes. But true.
You’re assuming we’ll be unhappy which some of us won’t. So keep the Kool Aid on ice Loud Mouth Lime. (right back at you) ;-)
You mean like that fake “black preacher” monotone that a certain pol uses?
“Her voice and manner of speech would drive most people bonkers over time.”
Baloney,,Bullcrap, horsefeathers and balderdash. Obama’s affected accents range randomly between “drunken black wino/philosopher”, to “Boston blue blood”, to “Arabic speaking muslim”, to “black pulpit minister”. Sarah’s is utterly normal Americana when compared to “the one’s”.
Read up on William Jennings Bryan. Read his speeches and you will see that Palin is running a modern populist style campaign. But, she doesn’t have a populist message. By getting people who are not interested in politics excited about “one of them” having a shot, and by putting out actual solutions to the problems through policy positions, she is using the methods of Bryan and combining it with her record of getting things done.
There isn’t a lot of room for error in this day and age, and every vote she can create out of nothing is an extra vote advantage she has over any opponents.
this poor asshole.......but he does have one thing right....Madam President
The moonbats are all aflutter because they can see their attempted neosocialist transformation of America failing.
“Darn that woman; it’s all her fault!”
I understand what you are saying and I loved her “in your face” speeches as much as anybody but you and I are not everybody in this country. Yup, I’ve read about William Jennings Bryan, a man from a different time but unless I need to keep reading I don’t ever remember a President William Jennings Bryan. And today... we are a so much more urban society (which of course I hate) but it is what it is. ;-)
Yeah, you really love Palin, you only want to defeat her in the primary and work to make sure that she never becomes our candidate, how do you support people that you don’t like?
Boy, that ol' Ruling Class, John-Kerry-as-Thurston-Howell haughtiness just HAS to come out, doesn't it? And GWB as a conservative? No, he's a Ruling Class progressive, tempered by his Texas upbringing.
Obama’s inflection and voice drives me crazy, to be sure. I can’t stand it. He never lasts more than a few seconds on the radio while I am driving.
But, I did not compare SP to him.
She is currently the leading force in electoral politics.
