So my brother just got back from Afghanistan
Three Fingers of Politics ^ | September 17, 2010 | Stupac

One of the best parts of having a blog is that I can write about stuff in my life and stuff I find interesting. This post falls squarely into the former category.

My youngest brother Hunter (who will probably kill me for this) recently returned from Afghanistan. He’s a Marine and was based in southern Afghanistan, in the city of Marjah. He was involved in the big push through the city that happened back in February, March and April.

My entire family, including my other brother (who recently graduated from Green Beret Qualification course), are so unbelievably proud and thankful for everything he’s done.

He’s gone places that many of us would never go, even in our wildest dreams, at the age of 20.

The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are obviously a very touchy subject in this country, so I won’t go on about the politics of them, after all this post is about my brother not politics.

The purpose of this post is first and foremost to say thank you to my brother, but also to remind everyone to stop and be thankful for what these guys go through. Shitty food, shitty places, no showers, little sleep, all in a country that most people can barely find on a map.

They do work that most of us can barely fathom, and take getting shot the way we take a copier jam.

I’ve attached a couple pictures, hope you enjoy:

He won't be the same person you remember. I can promise you that. You'll have a big part to play in how this works out.
It might not be easy, but it's worth it.
Give him a big Semper Fi from this old Doc.

OK. You're gonna learn how to post pix. 1. Go to pic. Right-click on it and go to Properties. 2. Highlight the properties (read internet address of the pic) and user ctrl + C on your keyboard to take a digital picture. 3. Now, you put 'syntax' around the picture properties where you want it to show up. Type this 6. Post. Voila. A picture post.

Regardless of how things work out, he (and you) will forever take pride in the fact that he was a Marine.
He'll be different, though.
If I can offer any advice, it would be to not ask too many questions about what went on.
Semper Fi, in advance
