High School Football Player Gets Penalized For Pointing To God

Occasionally we come across a story like this and the injustice can only make you sit back, shake your head, and wonder what we are coming to. A extraordinary young man, Ronnie Hastie, who plays high school football in Spokane, Oregon, always makes it a habit after scoring a touchdown to quickly kneel in the end zone and point to God – in an effort to give him the credit for the score and for his talent.

In this particular game, after a 23 yard touchdown, he took 1-2 seconds to do what he’s always done traditional…quickly kneel and point to God. But this time, the ref didn’t appreciate it and threw a penalty flag directly at his chest- docking the team 15 yards. KOMO-4 writes:

"Hastie said he’s pointed up as a gesture to God after every touchdown he’s scored in every game and never had a problem before.

“It’s usually one or two seconds long,” he said. “It’s something I’ve done as a tradition.”

Hastie said he asked the ref why he was penalized, and the ref responded that Hastie wasn’t supposed to draw attention to himself.

“That wasn’t the point (of the gesture), so I guess I was a little confused,” Hastie said. “I do that to give glory to my heavenly father, Jesus. He gives me the strength. He’s the one who gives me these abilities in the first place.”

Hastie’s father said his son points skyward in an effort to recognize something more important, actually trying to draw attention away from himself.'

It wasn’t flagrant, it wasn’t drawn out, and it sets a great example to young people everywhere. My opinion? Political correctness needs to die a slow, painful death.

anonymous basement-dweller who fancies himself as an authority on everything from macroeconomics to Old Testament prophecy

Now that is funny, considering the source and the cause. Good image.

It has to do with my employment and my previous choice for a handle.

So, "Tzfat" has to do with your employment?

Are you a fat guy with a tazer? Like a mall cop or something?

I discovered that using your place of employment in a handle can cause problems in the electronic age. Best to let IP sleuthing make the search task more difficult for Internet stalkers.

Yes, I can see how "bath_house_spongeboy" might be problematic.

Fly any good planes lately?

First of all, humblegunner and I disagree on A LOT of stuff and we've gone at it a bunch of times over the years.

Yep.

We seem to be pretty much in agreement on pimps and prophets though.

Yup. As a captain for a major (unnamed) airline, I fly only good planes. Let me help you: see what US airlines fly into Tel Aviv and you will narrow the list down.

Blog pimps seem to have an abundance of narcissism. The fact is that NOBODY finds them as interesting as they find themselves.

Who knows, but you took the time to do a search. All the foaming-at-the-mouth behavior of some commenters here, has strengthened the desire of folks like me to not want our home addresses easily discovered. Your behavior is a perfect example why.

You're absolutely correct.

In fact you should log off immediately and never return.

For safety's sake.

It is very unfair to characterize humble as you did in that video.

I have personally witnessed him lose it and it would be much more appropriate to link him to the “Leave Brittany Alone” video.

Be advised historically Free Republic has heroically resisted any influence from Emily Post, Amy Vanderbilt, Roberts Rules Of Order or any of a dozen schools of rhetoric from Ancient Greece and Rome through the modern day Toastmasters or even the Boy Scout Oath as a model of civilized conduct.

An odd stance for a presumably conservative website.

This latest iteration of homegrown Free Republic trolls obsessed with Blogs, while new to me, is basically the tail end of a long line of trolls who apparently date back to the founding.

An early secure border advocate by the name of Madfly was heckled into Freepercide before Secure Borders became an acceptable topic of discussion.

Schisms between Free Republic factions first became widely noticed with the legendary Massilon, Ohio threads which ultimately led to the creation of the Smoky Back Room Forum.

For a website dedicated to the preservation of "history in the making" the high command exhibits a remarkably cavalier attitude toward the content generated by contributors.

Threads are not "locked" they are deleted outright if they are deemed sufficiently contaminated by just a few nitwits who pollute the dialogue with their tripe.

A troll poster by the name of Robert Paulsen raised havoc on banglist threads for months before his account was closed. But in at least one thread he generated some of the most passionate and well reasoned response comments I have ever witnessed on Free Republic.

Some moderator just came along and deleted the entire thread.

If you did not archive the material before it was deleted it was just lost forever.

Very demoralizing.

So this is the dragon you confront.

If you can exert some positive influence on this sad state of affairs have at it.

Within reason, I would be happy to assist.

Best regards,

I remember that well, as do I remember the plethora of well argued Civil War threads (um, War of Northern Agression). I could always count on an education. Now we get one sentence tripe (that is profanity-laced) from anarchist like arrogantgunner.

Way back when they started the end zone celebrations - and some of them were like dance numbers - John Riggins was asked why he didn’t celebrate — his answer (more than less) ‘I have been there before and I hope to be back there again’.
