Yes.
“Medic!!!”
# votes awarded per commitment according to my system:
1 = citizen
10 = taxpayer for 5 years (seals out most of those under 27)
100 = property owner
1000 = veteran (has the biggest say, since has the most to lose. Extends to surviving spouse until she remarries).
I think a basic civics test, given every 10 years to citizens who wish to vote, should be the deciding factor, I don’t care how unfair some people think it is, if you don’t understand the constitution and the limits placed on our government you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
The whole notion is incredibly stupid.
Most property owners in the US are not owners at all, because they have a note for the property.
And why should somebody who inherited property be as qualified to vote as somebody who bought their property outright or somebody who rents?
Lastly, nobody owns property in the United States. We have a “basket of rights” and rent it from the government, who can take it anytime it wants if you don’t pay your property taxes or can take it from you through eminent domain and can regulate it death through the police powers of the state.
We already live in a totalitarian state and freedom is illusory.
We are just human batteries in a government Matrix.
>Moreover, government employees are not net taxpayers and should not vote
Outstanding point! They also have a conflict of interest, in potentially voting for people who would give them job security or raises.
Only taxpayers and retired people who were taxpayers should be allowed to vote. And everyone who worked would be pay at least a small amount of federal tax.
Dang it!
I wish you were wrong... but you are not... so sad...
That why it’s called “Real Estate” which means “The Kings Land” if you look it up.
I thought Buchanan was a populist? He sounds incoherent.
If you let people who live off of government money (welfare, unemployment, Social Security) vote, what is to keep them from just voting themselves more money?
I understand what you're trying to say, but what about a person who just went bankrupt through no fault of their own and has no assets left. Or a mother whose husband skipped out on her, leaving her nothing? There would simply be too many "special cases" where fairness would be hard to monitor. Besides, I'm more worried about the idiot who is told who to vote for and doesn't have a clue about the issues or what a candidate stands for.
And you have to show id and proof of citizenship.
IMHO a good start would be to restrict voting only to U.S. citizens !
Pat is exactly right.
Losers, bums, deadbeats, and parasites can vote themselves other people’s money by electing all-too-willing Democrats to confiscate the loot for them at gunpoint.
Outstanding point! They also have a conflict of interest, in potentially voting for people who would give them job security or raises.
Miami-Dade County allows ALL County employees one hour "off-early" to vote.
Right on. Just try not paying your property taxes and you’ll find out soon enough who the true owner of the property is.
In this case he's simply reading the original US Constitution.
