"If you don’t pay federal taxes, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote in a federal election."

Word, Friend. Word.

The problem with universal suffrage is that it treats voting as if it were a game - everyone gets a turn. In reality, directing the government is a serious thing and we need to keep in mind what we are doing and why.

Why should those who financially contribute nothing be allowed to vote the taxes of others for themselves? Why should we think that those who can't or won't support themselves are qualified to tell the government how to manage its affairs? Obviously, they shouldn't and can't and it has nothing to do with the outcome of a particular election. I am not buying the "everyone has a stake" argument, either. Those who wish to prey on our nation or its citizens don't have any inherent right to do so.

You are correct. I have watched the election returns for my little part of the world for several years. The wards where the entitlement class live always vote for higher property taxes. They have little to lose and the world to gain.
