I do not know who the "they" is that you are referring to, but the Democratic strategist have actually put together an organized effort for Dems to support Sarah in the GOP primaries. This is hardly the action of people who fear her, in fact they believe that having her as an opponent provides the best chance for Obama to be elected. Some on this forum think that their attacks on her are caused by fear. I see no evidence of that; they are simply trying the drive the negatives up on the person they see as the likely GOP nominee.

I registered as a Democrat in January 2008 so that I could vote for Obama in the NH Primary, believing then that there was no way he could be elected and that HRC would be trouble.

You make a good point and polls taken this early should never be treated as gospel. The problem for Sarah is more in the trend than in the raw numbers. She has had a lot of media exposure since appearing on the national scene and the polling trend shows a significant increase in her unfavorable rating since then. Her head to head poll numbers against Obama seem to be trending in the wrong direction as well. To complicate matters, the media exposure she has had has made her well known with a large number of people polled already having an opinion of her. In short, there are fewer in the undecided category regarding their opinion on Sarah. This makes it harder to gain ground.
