Kristof Criticizes American ‘Paranoia’ Over Islamic Fundamentalism
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Q. Can a Harvard Phi Beta Kappa and Rhodes Scholar, who has traveled to 150 countries and speaks Arabic, Chinese and Japanese, be hopelessly naive about foreign policy?

A. Ever read one of Nicholas Kristof's columns?

For the trendy liberals of the New York Times, most any big event becomes fodder for that favorite progressive parlor game: putting America down. Take Egypt. Yesterday, we noted how Bob Herbert compared American democracy unfavorably with that supposedly flourishing on the banks of the Nile.

Today brings us Kristof's "What Egypt Can Teach America." Naturally, we have a lot to learn, starting with Kristof's ukase that America must "stop treating Islamic fundamentalism as a bogyman and allowing it to drive American foreign policy." Kristof accuses Americans of "paranoia about Islamism." Excellent point, Mr. K. I mean, it's not as if a bunch of lunatic Islamists hijacked planes and flew them into . . . oh, wait.

Kristof wasn't finished criticizing his compatriots . . .

I hear you, Captain, but in contrast with doctors working outside their field, Kristof, despite seemingly impressive credentials, demonstrates amazing naivete while writing IN his field!

When you hate America, it is best to discount America’s true enemies

“Arguing that “Mao’s legacy is not all bad,” (idiot)Kristof pays tribute to Mao’s successes with land reform and women’s rights. “Land reform in China,” he writes, “like land reform in Japan and Taiwan, helped lay the groundwork for prosperity today.”

What he doesn’t say is that land reform in Japan and Taiwan was accomplished without the slaughter of millions of people.

Regarding women’s rights, Kristof asserts that Mao “moved China from one of the worst places in the world to be a girl to one where women have more equality than in, say, Japan or Korea.”

The perfect example of this enhanced equality, perhaps, is that the Chinese government has just banned (Chang & Halliday’s) new book on Mao, for both men and women.”

Unlikely. Until the makeup of the citizenry involved changes from ultra liberal DemonRAT voters, RINO’s and Wall Street Scam artists things will continue as usual.

“It is the typical teenage rebellion syndrome you see with most Liberals. Everything at home is bad. Everything else is good. (but mom! i love the motorcycle guy with the leather jacket and the tattoos! I don’t care that he just got out of prison! He will change for me, I know it.)”

Great analogy, sir/madam! May I use it? (With proper attribute, of course?)

Bet on it. First of all, speaking different languages doesn’t make one a genius. Neither does visiting other countries. Second, it must be remembered that we all have a finite amount of time on our hands. When we use that time to almost exclusively feed ourselves information with a specific bias (e.g. liberal academic ideology) we ensure we will remain ignorant in other areas. Rather than being surprised by academic ignorance, one should expect it. It’s predictable.

The difference between Christianity and Islam is that evil acts that have been committed in the name of Christianity are aberrations and directly conflict with the teachings of Christianity, while those committed in Islam are simply following the directives of Islamic scriptures and teaching.

Islam is a violent, evil cult at its core, and not because of the errors or evils of the human beings who are its followers.

“Among the Elites, there always seems to be a strain of those who would just appease and ultimately surrender to the Enemy.”

They don’t see themselves surrendering. What they see is a chance to knock off the only real enemy on their horizon, Constitutionalists, Right-winger, whatever they believe conservatives are. They plan to keep this ally, multiculturalism and Islamism. What they lack is the vision to see long-term what strengthening this enemy will mean for them.

I often wondered what the Arabs, who worked with the Nazis to eliminate the Jews, thought the end game would be. It seems obvious that no Arab fit the Arian superiority mold, but both parties kept up a successful cooperation toward their shared goals.

I recall a Far Side cartoon where this cow is sitting at the campfire with the cowpokes. It says, “And, tomorrow just after dawn there will be a stampede. The ringleader is Daisy. Remember, when we get to Laramie you let Me go.”

The Left’s alternative to choosing Islam as their ally is to choose some right-wing, conservative evil b*st*rd. That guy might make your kids say the Pledge of Allegiance or something awful. It’s much better to work with the guy who wants your kid to wear a suicide vest. Suicide is self-actualization, don’tchaknow?

He’s either wilfully ignorant, or just a liar, but either way, he’s an a-hole and is not telling the truth. Sounds like a good fit for a job in the Obama administration or DNC. Thanks governsleastgovernsbest.

Kristof epitomizes what is common among many elite libs: the educated person who really doesn’t know or understand much of anything. Also known as a brilliant idiot. They were quite common too during the rise of the Bolsheviks promising their compatriots that they had seen the future, and it was soviet-style communism. We know how that turned out.

The islamofascists are using psychological warfare against the West. They cry “poor me!” and hypocritically call for “tolerance” and “diversity’ even as they wage pogroms against the few remaining Christians and Jews in their own countries, and the leftwing media just eats it up.

In too many of the media outlets there is a kneejerk Anti-Americanism which pervades and colors not just the so-called objectivity in the stories they report, but editorially, WHICH stories are covered and which ones are buried.

Still, our weakness is in, not so much the free marketplace of ideas, but in the poor choices that some of the consumers (present company excepted) of these ideas take.

The internet has provided a useful end-run around the socialist gatekeepers of knowledge, but for how much longer? We witnessed the blackout in Egypt and Obammy wants that same kill-switch for the U.S.

So here we have a mainstream media which, editorially speaking, has a strong socialistic agenda. However the MSM only exists as a result of its corporate funding.

So who are these corporate interests which are funding the MSM and why would they pay the likes of CNN, CBS, Time...to push an anti-American, anti-corporate, pro-socialist, pro-islamofascist agenda?

Who benefits ultimately from having the masses both dependent upon a bloated nanny government, and terrorized/enslaved to a fascistic moon cult?

Follow the monopoly money.

I would not be surprised if Kristof has lived in the Gaza for 6 months. His middle name is probably Hussein.

Agreed. But the Left wing apologists will never accept that. Not only will they not accept it, they wont debate it openly or even ‘hear’ it said.

One of the chief characteristics of Liberalism is that if you tell them something or ask a question that they don't like they simply refuse to answer and run away.

Truth, fact, and reality to a Liberal is like showing a cross to a vampire. They hiss and shriek while covering their face with a cape and run away.

From AlGore to Mahr/Moore to Gibbs, Liberals do not debate. They simply ‘declare’ something and then evade any questioning or challenge to their proclamations.

The only reason the intelligence cheif Clapper was successfully challenged is that the group he was describing, the Muslim Brotherhood, was offended. He was so far out in 'La La land', like most Libs, that even the Muslims were scratching their heads and asking, "What planet does this guy live on?"

He may as well have said, "You know, most Black/Asian/Hispanic people are really White people at heart." It was just a total contradiction of fact and reality.

Oh I dont know. I think even a terrorist nuclear warhead exploding over, say, Houston - could and would be explained away. After all, the US oppressed the poor jihadists and their families for years. The US has GOT to have some responsibility for the attack. It takes two to have an argument you know, and so on and so on.
