Minister Louis FarrakhanLouis Farrakhan, leader of the Chicago-based Nation of Islam, is ratcheting up his rhetoric in support of longtime friend Muammar Gaddafi, the embattled leader of Libya.
To cheers from a packed crowd at the annual Mississippi Civil Rights Conference at Jackson State University on March 25, 2011, Farrakhan criticized Barack Obama for joining the "old colonial masters" in militarily imposing a no-fly zone over Libya. Farrakhan derided Obama as "the first Jewish president," alleging he'd been handpicked for the job by "rich, powerful members of the Jewish community."
Two weeks earlier, during a 2½-hour radio interview on Chicago's WVON-AM, Farrakhan said of Obama, French President Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Cameron, "They would love to go into Libya and kill Brother Gaddafi, and kill his children." Farrakhan admonished Obama, "Don't let these wicked demons move you in a direction that will absolutely ruin your future with your people in Africa and throughout the world."
Farrakhan rejects the idea that Libya's "so-called rebels" represent a popular uprising. "Now, I want to warn you, in the Name of Allah, that this is more complex than what you think!" he railed at President Obama. "Who the hell do you think you are, that you can talk to a man that built a country over 42 years, and ask him step down and get out?"
As Farrakhan sees it, this is the latest in a long line of Western power grabs to control "the sweetest crude oil in the world." By way of historical revelation, he cites a line from the "Marines' Hymn" pledging to fight our country's battles from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, present-day capital of the Libyan Republic. "What were you doing in Tripoli?" asks Farrakhan suspiciously. "See, this attitude that somehow Western powers have a right to the resources of weaker nations in Africa ... Gaddafi rejected that notion."
In fact, the "Marines' Hymn" reference to Tripoli derives from the First Barbary War (1801-1805), when a detachment of ten U.S. Marines and an army of 500 Muslim mercenaries defeated pirate forces in the employ of Pasha Yusuf Karamanli. The pasha had rashly demanded a tribute of $225,000 from President Thomas Jefferson in order to "protect" American shipping from the pasha's own pirates. Since Libyan oil and natural gas reserves were not discovered until 1959, whatever those ten U.S. Marines were doing in Tripoli obviously had nothing to do with oil.
But oil wealth does explain Minister Farrakhan's loyalty to Gaddafi. For, as Farrakhan tells it, "that man was a friend of the Nation of Islam. He was a friend of Elijah Muhammad," the NOI's leader from 1934-1975. "He helped Elijah Muhammad get the mosque on [Chicago's] Stony Island Avenue originally. He loaned us $5 million to put personal care products up for the members of the Nation of Islam." Gaddafi, adds Farrakhan approvingly, "wrote in his Green Book that he saw the future of the world in the hands of black people."
However, Gaddafi's reasoning as to why blacks will prevail is less than complimentary. "The black race is at present," he wrote in 1975, "in a dire and backward social condition. This backwardness is working in the interest of their numerical superiority. Their low standard of living has rendered these people immune from knowledge of methods of birth control. Their backward social traditions are responsible for the absence of restrictions in marriage leading to an unchecked and high birth rate. This is at a time when other races are diminishing in number as a result of the practice of birth control and a preoccupation with work; this is in contrast to black people, whose lassitude is due to living in constantly hot climate."
Thirty-five years later, Gaddafi's low opinion of blacks hadn't changed. Concluding a 2010 visit to Italy, Gaddafi demanded that the European Union fork over €5 billion ($6.3 billion) annually. In return, Libya would help curtail illegal immigration from black Africa. "Europe runs the risk of turning black from illegal immigration," Gaddafi threatened. "We need support from the European Union to stop this army trying to get across from Libya, which is their entry point. There is a dangerous level of immigration from Africa into Europe, and we don't know what will happen. What will be the reaction of the white Christian Europeans to this mass of hungry uneducated Africans? We don't know if Europe will remain an advanced and cohesive continent or if it will be destroyed by this barbarian invasion."
To the untrained Western ear, this has the ring of Pasha Karamanli rashly demanding a tribute from the U.S. Treasury in order to "protect" American shipping from the pasha's own pirates. Who said history doesn't repeat itself?
As for Minister Farrakhan, he will soon turn 78, an age when most men are content to look back on their lives in quiet reflection. Not so Louis Farrakhan. He is like a heavyweight champion, prepping for the fight of his life. "If America goes to war," he told a hushed crowd of 18,000 admirers on February 27 at the Nation of Islam's annual Saviours' Day convention in a Chicago suburb, "President Obama, like Franklin Delano Roosevelt, may be forced to sign an executive order that he's not fully in agreement with: to take Farrakhan off the streets and charge him with sedition and treason."
Minister Farrakhan is unbowed by such a prospect. "I told my followers that when they come, 'I don't want you fightin' them, for they're only coming to kill you.' I been expecting them. I know what I got to go through." He gazes out at his obedient Nation and scoffs at this fate, chuckling confidently. "Ha, ha, but I know I'm gonna be the winner. That I know."
The cheers and standing ovation are perhaps not unlike those that rise from Muammar Gaddafi's well-paid loyalists massed to the end in Tripoli's Green Square. No matter the odds against them, true believers are always convinced they'll be the winners.
I don’t get it, aside from money that may have passed hands in the past. Daffy is an Arab. Arabs enslave blacks. But, Daffy’s given jobs to a lot of black mercenaries. Maybe that makes him a brother.

Q Daffy has spent the last decade, at least, positioning himself as the Big Man of Africa. In speeches he has said things like, the Arab world is hopeless, lets focus on Africa. So he has invested economically and diplomatically with a lot of SubSaharan African countries, which is smart because there are a lot of resouces there. The only two who figured this out where Q Daffy and the Chicoms.
I wonder why African-Americans can applaud nutcases like Farrakhan, and no one in the media or elsewhere criticizes it.

Since the headline says, “African-American,” I hope it’s referring to someone who was born in Africa. 3% of South Africans have ancestors who came from India. If one of those people becomes a U.S. citizen, he or she would be an African-American.
It’s the same reasoning so many blacks voted for obama just for his race. They said “This might be the only chance I ever get to vote for a black man”
They said to hell with principles.
