Libyan Rebels Advancing — to the REAR!

Libyan Rebels Advancing — to the REAR! A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

I watched a couple of commentators gently arguing with each other, a few days ago, about who was winning the fight in Libya.

The commentator from the left proclaimed the rebels were winning and she was interrupted by the commentator from the right who asked the piercing question: If they are winning why are they going in the wrong direction? He went on to say the rebels were going east while Gaddafi and his troops were in the west.

I had to laugh as I remembered the expression coined during the Korean conflict (WAR) when American troops were in retreat from the communist Chinese troops. The US commander declared his troops were not retreating; they were simply advancing in another direction.

While we armchair generals assess Obama’s efforts at playing soldier, we would find it amusing were it not for the fact that lives are being lost in a cause that, without troops on the ground, is already a lost cause.

Any military veteran can tell you that superior air power will enable a force to clear a piece of ground of the enemy. But air power, alone, cannot secure that piece of ground. It requires troops on the ground, infantry, artillery, etc to hold that piece of real estate. The same applies to a country.

I still think they are doing this on purpose as a ploy to get Obama to arm them and put in US boots to do their fighting for them.

Just wait, it will happen. And Obama will do it even if Congress says no. He will do it anyway.

Next item up? One of these days there will be a draft again. It is coming. Another way to beef up employment.

That my FRiend, is all part of the Caliph Obama doctrine and fruits of his muslim outreach.

His Doctrine is to level the playing field and the successes of America. “Level”. Rat Bastard!

The region that the “rebels’ are from is pro islamic and tried to overthrow gaddaffe back in the 1990’s. obama is supporting islamic terrorists. while the current leader is not a gem, the people are better off with him then they would be under a islamic government( especially the women)

I thought advancing to the rear — especially to the young rear — was a pretty common thing among the sons of the prophet.

I had to laugh as I remembered the expression coined during the Korean conflict (WAR) when American troops were in retreat from the communist Chinese troops. The US commander declared his troops were not retreating; they were simply advancing in another direction.

Those were US Marines and US Army surrounded by the Chinese at the Chosin Reservoir. One of the commanders was the legendary Chesty Puller, USMC. They fought their way out in one of the greatest military accomplishments in American history.

Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller (June 26, 1898 – October 11, 1971) was an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Puller is the most decorated U.S. Marine in history, and the only Marine to receive five Navy Crosses.

During his career, he fought guerrillas in Haiti and Nicaragua, and participated in some of the bloodiest battles of World War II and the Korean War. Puller retired from the Marine Corps in 1955, spending the rest of his life in Virginia.

At the outbreak of the Korean War, Puller was once again assigned as commander of the 1st Marine Regiment, with which he made a landing at Inchon on September 15, 1950, earning his Silver Star. For leadership from September 15 to November 2, he was awarded his second Legion of Merit. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross from the Army for action from November 29 to December 5 of that same year, and his fifth Navy Cross for action during December 5–10 at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. It was during that battle when he made the famous quote, "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things."

The US had to attack to the South in order to breakout of the encirclement. "Retreat Hell! We're just attacking in another direction." (Attributed to Major General Oliver P. Smith, USMC, Korea, December 1950.)

Puller's fifth Navy Cross citation:

Fifth Navy Cross citation:

"For extraordinary heroism as Commanding Officer of the First Marines, First Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against aggressor forces in the vicinity of Koto-ri, Korea, from 5 to 10 December 1950. Fighting continuously in sub-zero weather against a vastly outnumbering hostile force, Colonel Puller drove off repeated and fanatical enemy attacks upon his Regimental defense sector and supply points. Although the area was frequently covered by grazing machine-gun fire and intense artillery and mortar fire, he coolly moved along his troops to insure their correct tactical employment, reinforced the lines as the situation demanded, and successfully defended the perimeter, keeping open the main supply routes for the movement of the Division. During the attack from Koto-ri to Hungnam, he expertly utilized his Regiment as the Division rear guard, repelling two fierce enemy assaults which severely threatened the security of the unit, and personally supervised the care and prompt evacuation of all casualties. By his unflagging determination, he served to inspire his men to heroic efforts in defense of their positions and assured the safety of much valuable equipment which would otherwise have been lost to the enemy. His skilled leadership, superb courage and valiant devotion to duty in the face of overwhelming odds reflect the highest credit upon Colonel Puller and the United States Naval Service."

I personally knew two Marines who proudly said that they served with Chesty at the Reservoir. They were part of the Chosin few.

Anyone seen this story yet? OUR airstrikes killing civilians. Wonder if it's true.

Normally, I don't concern myself too much with collateral damage; but given that the mission (as far as I understand it) is to STOP civilians from being killed by Gadaffi, this story (if true) is astounding.

Well when you have hundreds of tomahawks striking targets civilian casualties are usually inevitiable. I would say people probably are getting killed. Hard to say how many.

This whole thing is a total disaster. We (Obama) let the UK, French and UAE get us into this mess and now the arabs have disappeared and we are going to end up with all the heavy lifting. Mommar is not going gently into that good night. Now we will be arming Al Queda. It just gets better and better everyday. Look for boots on the ground in about a week.

Nothing matters to obama except that radical islam is advanced. Who cares if a few moslems have to get martyred if islam as a whole advances.

I pray to God that obama drops dead shortly. Psalm 109:8-9
