I be more likely to believe every plane we have capable of carrying a nuke is loaded up and heading out to sea to jettison those ‘pesky’ things. With this administration that scenario would be far more likely. “I’d like to teach the world to sing...” and all that Kumbaya stuff - gonna make ‘em love us or else.

We flew 3 B-2’s from Missouri to Libya but we are using B-52 on a surprise nuke attack on Iran?

Last time i looked Obama is still POTUS TOTUS. So if B-52’s with nukes are heading for the Middle East the only logical conclusion is the target is Israel.

that would be a nice change but the administration doesn’t have the balls.

Why do you think that requires balls? All he has to do is issue an order.

Balls would be leading our troops into battle.

Dropping them on Iran will go a long way to stop terrorism around the world.

The B-52 is large and non-stealthy, which makes it problematic for missions in contested airspace over Iran. Yet the B-52 is also highly reliable, has electronic counter measures, and great carrying capacity, including standoff weapons. These attributes makes the B-52 useful for missions on the periphery of contested airspace.

IF B-52s soon carry war loads against Iran -- which is doubtful -- they will be equipped with large numbers of standoff weapons such as cruise missiles, the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), and the winged version of the Small Diameter Bomb (SDB). In later phases, large JDAM smart bombs might be used once enemy air defense were out of commission and Iranian airspace was fully dominated by the US.

The key point is that B-52s could do a lot of damage to Iran at the outset of an air offensive without going inside Iranian air space and becoming vulnerable to its air defenses.

Launched from many miles outside of enemy territory, cruise missiles are now a standard part of US conventional warfare. They have extraordinary accuracy and are highly resistant to jamming and radar detection.

Flying low and being difficult to detect or stop, cruise missiles are especially useful against air defenses, command and control nodes, and other high value targets. Cruise missiles are often used in large numbers to "knock down the door" in the opening hours of an air offensive.

The JSOW, a large winged and guided glide bomb, is relatively new but has proved to be extraordinarily effective. It can glide for many miles and then, depending on the version, disperse guided bomblets against armor or infantry targets or deliver a devastating punch with a large two element bomb designed to destroy hardened targets.

The SDB is also winged and guided, but, unlike 1,000 lb JSOWs and JDAMs, its small size and weight (250 pounds) make it useful against small targets and in civilian areas. A B-52 can carry large numbers of SDBs. The small wings allow them to glide up to 70-80 kilometers when released from high altitude.

The SDB also has a hard front end that can punch through several feet of rock or concrete, and a warhead that does more concentrated damage per pound of explosive than the usual bomb composed of explosives in a thin metal casing.

It seems unlikely that the appearance of B-52s near Iran is anything more than a demonstration of US capabilities. As suggested above, even just ten or twenty B-52s can do a lot of damage in a few hours without ever getting inside Iran's air space. US interests are well-served by reminding Iran's mullahs of their vulnerabilities -- which is probably why the B-52s are on the move.

The administration is islamic now. The best thing is to get US troops out of the ME and let the Shia (Iran) and Sunni (Saudis and others0 kill each other. The oil (spice) will still flow because they have to eat.

There are no good guys or bad guys in the islamic middle east.
