Atlas Shrugged, a novel in which society’s most productive citizens choose to disappear, was published in 1957, and filmmakers have spent nearly every year since trying to adapt it. They finally succeeded, and the first part of what’s planned as a trilogy comes out April 15. If you didn’t know that, it’s likely you’re not a member of the Tea Party.

I read alot. “Atlas Shrugged” is the only book I have read multiple times (5, soon to be 6). I envy people who haven’t read it...they still get to experience it for the first time.
I'd drive a couple hours to see it, but doesn't matter
In plain English, read the book! Be prepared, Ms Rand never uses three words where seven will do. Despite that, be prepared to be sickened when a critical even in the book causes you to think, “Lord, that happened two years ago.” Then, “Hey, this is going on right now.” Soon, “Good heavens, this is from seven years ago.”
You will be reading a book written decades ago, that accurately predicted events occuring NOW. Today..this night.

Dumb question...a definate conservative book?
The most shocking thing about this story is that there are 9 million active Tea Party members.
If that number is true, that is a huge social movement, especially created in a couple years.

If they get enough previews on TV people will demand to see it. We should all write our local theaters and ask for it.
Very simply.
Understand that much of the book is dated in that America's economy is still dependent on heavy industry.
A mind set has taken hold of government, the private sector, business in general, that unemployment must be kept down. Therefore if one business is run well, successfully uses innovation, thinks outside the box, it is immediately beset by the Feds (directly and through the press), to surrender that which gives that company it's edge to it's competitors so that those competitors will not go out of business and therefore lay people off. The original "too big to fail".
After many examples of this political policy at work, it becomes apparent that a movement has formed among the successful businessmen and innovators, to drop out and play by the politically correct rules no more.
Some of those who have dropped out go to a remote location and live by the rules that make sense to them. Others stay in the world but they work simple jobs for an hourly rate. They do not share their ability with the society that has painted a target on their backs.
Very basic here. Maybe others will help.

I was most likely reading the book for the sixth or seventh time. I’ve worn out two copies already. Contributed to the murder of a lot of trees in the process.
It depends what you mean by "conservative", I suppose. The book is an ode to capitalism and a trumpet of Rand's own "objectivism" philosophy. The degree to which you will agree with it depends on the degree to which you can agree with capitalism and objectivism.
As a free market capitalist, I love the first half of the equation. As a Christian, I find a lot to take issue with in the second.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. There was enough common ground to relish it (and enough creepy truth to be disturbed by it). The plot was good, the characters well written. There were a few points at which the book sort of plodded, but a fine read in the end.

Hope “Atlas Shrugged” is much better than “The Fountainhead.” No movie worth a damn ends with a court room scene. I know some people can handle it, maybe even love court room drama, I say feh!!!, tell you what.
Anyone who enjoys reading “Atlas Shrugged” should not be concerned about murdering trees.
My all time favorite book. It took me months to complete, but it was well worth it. The movie looks like it should be fantastic. I’ve used the AS website to request it be shown in my area and as of Thursday, it is! Bought tickets for the family on-line for Friday at 7:00 pm.

I just checked your link and several cities in Florida have been added since Wednesday when only theaters in the south Florida area were showing it. Now there are theaters in Tampa, Pensacola, Jacksonville and Orlando.
Could be because Ayn Rand was a militant atheist and a destructive narcissist in her personal life. That said, she was a brilliant writer. Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead and We the Living are books to be cherished throughout the eternity that she denied.
The poster that said she used seven words when three were necessary was kind. When you get to the speeches, and the declarative stuff defining what she believes, she uses one thousand words rather than three, and flat out bores you to death.
It's still a classic, her insight to the problem was excellent, very prophetic, but her idea of what would solve it was pretty thin. It's worthwhile reading, but don't expect an epiphany about how to beat the cockroaches and their ilk, she's not got all the answers.
Well then you would be jealous of me ;) I am at the part where John Galt makes his entrance. I love the characters but sometimes wish the dialogue between them were better.
Rand was quite the deep thinker and her philosophy takes time to ponder. I am very pleased with it thus far and can’t wait to read how it ends.
I first read it back in the early ‘70’s. That which the book predicts is happening right now.

I just checked and saw Columbia SC and the theatre is actually close by and a good one. I may have movie night when it comes out. My wife will probably decline though or go see another movie while I watch Atlas.
I subscribed to the site too, and requested it in Tucson. Lo and behold this morning, I held my breath and it’s coming here!!! We had been planning to drive up to Tempe (2+ hours and a horrid road full of illegals) to see the first show.
My husband has a furlough day and I am taking a vacation day so that we can see the first showing, bought the tickets this morning. The movie trailer looks amazing, with gorgeous scenery on top of it.

Haha, I suggest you do a little more research into who Rand was, where she came from, and the novels she wrote!
In fact, her first novel _was_ made into a film. TWO films, actually. But they weren’t made in this country.

The Fountainhead was Rand’s THIRD “novel”....
As a matter of fact, the only book of her's I've read is Atlas Shrugged. Is it along the lines of Friedman's "Capitalism and Freedom"? (possibly my favorite treatment of the subject).

I LOVE this short clip below where Friedman annihilates the ignorant doanahue...This clip is the whole ball of wax - spells out the historic battle between the free and the forced - between those who would live free and allow his fellow man to and those who think that man needs to be controlled and that, with hubris on steroids, THEY are the ones who need to decide and control.
