Glenn Beck announced today that he is launching an online TV channel.
Looks like he is supporting all the Apple iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod) & Roku.
Will enough people be willing to pay for this?
Not me. I don’t need to be lectured to and bitched at by anyone.
Pay? In addition to hearing/watching commercials?
I like Glenn, but if he left FoxNews for a pay-per-view website what a dumb mistake. Granted, he had a terrible time slot at Fox.
However, the Radio show is where he needs to be ...
I agree. Dumb mistake. Have they announced who is taking over his time slot on FOX?
Pretty much everything he’s touched has turned to gold.
I was afraid he’d go this direction. Bad idea, but then again, I’m one of the millions of Americans STILL on dial-up (as our only viable option) and won’t be able to access this site.
Oh, well, I wish him success, nevertheless.
bttt
Glenn is losing Radio stations in big markets and he thinks people are going to pay for this service in droves? I don’t see it. This will fail.
How much? How much to be a GBTV insider? How much to be a GBTV insider plus? How much for the optional GBTV insider magazine? How much for the GBTV live show coming to a theater not near you?
And has Glenn started the book on how he started GBTV.com?
His banner ad on Drudge right now is pretty darn creative....
when is he leaving fox?
Yep...I might join.
.
Per the website, $4.95/mo for GBTV and $9.95/mo for GBTV+.
Im one of the millions of Americans STILL on dial-up (as our only viable option)
Question. What is your load speed of a thread here on FR with all the graphics that now are a part of the chatter? Is it a slow process?
The text loads fast. Pics take a bit, depending. FR is about the only site I visit nowadays. All others are so app heavy and vid heavy. I’m running at about 26 kbps on a good day.
Wouldn’t it make sense to offer a free trial..say two weeks...of would that make the servers crash..alternatively..offer a one month subscription...and say that he’ll refund your money if you don’t like it..
Give the ‘Opera’ browser a try - it has a ‘turbo’ feature that could speed you up a bit too.
I’m on an old XP and the sites get slower and slower to load - I’m on DSL. Also, ‘Chrome’ seems to be faster for me too.. (using it now- once Firefox 4 came out that was it for me over there- had to move to other browsers)
Not me!
I find Glen Beck very irritating. How can a man literally cry over the Constitution and then **MOCK** and **INSULT** those who defend Article 2, Section 1.
Glen Beck only cares about the parts of the Constitution that are convenient.
It’s not just going to be Beck...he’ll only have one show per day. He’s featuring documentaries and other programing, will be available much like Netflix is available for instant viewing. We watch very little on TV anymore, we plug in the iPad to the TV and watch stuff off Netflix, so I have no doubt we’ll use the service (4.95 a month not a bad price.)
I never could get much more than him rambling and talking with his cohost about stuff that had no general interest.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
My opinion exactly! I
It will have history programs, children’s programs, comedy programs, documentaries.
No PC.
I will join.
I dunno what ‘enough’ means,
But I signed up today.
He is staying with Radio.
And a 2 hour show on his new network from 5-7 p.m.
Free show tomorrow night, and many events free over the summer...and a discount until 9-12...
And a 15% discount for a years subscription...
Actually, Beck is very smart to leave FOX right now.
FOX is old and crumbling. Everyone there is old (50 >) and out of touch. O’Reilly & Krauthammer for example.
They have drifted to the left. They are no longer conservative.
The problem is the lack of advertising. ——
I agree with most of your post...but a major problem is they are lefties, just not as far over as CNN and MSNBC, yet.
This ain’t gonna hurt Beck, it is going to hurt FOX, and OReilly and Greta...
I have Opera...can’t stand it. Don’t use it. I’m having no trouble with the new Firefox. And don’t even get me started about Chrome. : ) I’m just part of the Doomed, I guess.
June 30th, I think, is his last show on FNC.
I suppose he'll reach many young people, as he wanted, but he will be shutting out thousands, if not millions, of seniors and other non tech-savvy people (like my in-laws who worship Glenn Beck). They are going to miss Glenn's daily 5pm show each day.
Why can't he just keep his FNC TV show, and maybe launch a 2nd hour on one of his websites? Right now watching our TV is far more convenient than watching "TV" online. I highly doubt we'll be subscribing to Beck's new "TV" network.
You can still watch it on your TV.
Oh crap... I thought he was on FNC through the end of December 2011. :-(
I can’t explain why Glenn is doing what he’s doing, but possibly the falling sponsor $$ have something to do with it. But for sure, Glenn has a strategy to be profitable.
Sorry I guess I needed the sarcasm tag for those of you in Rio Linda.
I once was a big fan of Beck but his shtick wore out long time ago. I won’t use electricity to listen to him anymore. But if you want to send him more money feel free, and don’t forget to buy your tee shirt on the way out.
I know... it's ridiculous, isn't it? I like Glenn, but I think this is a really BAD move. He will be shutting out millions of people - especially seniors and people who aren't tech-savvy (like my in-laws who LOVE Glenn).
I'm somewhat tech-savvy, but I have no interest in paying to have to watch him in another room on my computer. If he's not on "old-fashioned" TV in the comfort of our family room, I won't be watching him.
I wonder how many of the critics of Beck’s pay-per-view operation are handing over big dollars to the left by paying for cable? My bet? Lots.
Until someone actually comes to my house and shows me how to watch an online-only "TV" program on my actual TV, my computer and laptops and the television will be separate components that don't interact.
We finally just got a new HDTV and DVR... we're still trying to figure all that out (and we needed much help from the cable company and Best Buy's Geek Squad). And this damn computer needs to go to the shop yet again... there's only so much of this stuff we can handle by ourselves, to be honest.
This is the Internet. Shouldn’t his advertising be enough for him to offer the program for free?
If it were free I would likely check out his “station” every so often, but I am not going to pay for it. I have never liked his radio or Fox programs enough to do that.
Yes, I've heard of MLB.tv, but as far as I know you have to watch it only on a computer... (??)
Or on mobile devices, ie iPhone, etc.
