I went into the Hospital Wednesday Morning, to have a stent inserted into my right caroted artery, after about ten minutes in the operating room they aborted the procedure, and sent me back to the recovery room with a huge humungas bruse on my left lower quadrant. No one will tell me what happened. Any suggestions????
Why would they be placing a stent in your carotid if you were suffering from chest pain?
You went in Wednesday...today is Friday and you still don’t know. What kind of hospital/doctor did you go to? I wouldn’t have left the hospital unless I was told what the heck happened.
You certainly need to raise heck if nobody will tell you what happened. They have a responsibility to inform you. Does the hospital have a patient advocate or a chaplain?
Carotid stenting is quite risky, and Research has narrowed the indications for this based on risk assessments. If they stopped, it was because they probably concluded that the risks of doing it exceeded the expected benefits. Maybe you should have open surgery instead. Maybe something else was out of whack (coronary risk, etc). You need to talk with the doctor who started the procedure.
If by “left lower quadrant” you mean the groin, that’s probably where they insert the catheter for the trip up to the carotid. They should really tell you what’s up.
I'm not a doctor and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. My guess is that the artery they were fishing the stent through may have been compromised resulting in the bruising.
They're probably not telling you because then that would be admitting fault. The MIA doctor is probably in hiding.
I suggest getting a good lawyer and have him deal with it.
I had 2 stents inserted last December and had the same bruies. No big deal as they go away in a couple of weeks
I’m by no means a doctor...I do have extensive experience with stents from a patients perspective...
Sounds like something went wrong...They had all the cardiologists come and check you out to see if they could agree that you will be ok...
The bruise is probably blood that leaked from the artery and pooled uner your skin, possibly after the wall of the artery was accidentially punctured...
When it happened to me, I went immediately into emergency surgery...Quadruple bypass...
Apparently your situation didn’t warrant that...They monitored you for a couple of days to make sure blood pressure and every thing was steady...
You likely will be ok but if anything changes, or if you are stressed about it, go to the emergency room...You might get some general information about it or even specific information from the ER physician who will be able to access your recent records...
Unfortunately it’s the weekend so pursing any information will be difficult...
Once they were in there with that tiny camera and could see your arteries, they determined there was not a blockage as suspected, so did not put in a stent. Originally probably you had chest or arm pains, and especially if you’re over middle-age, the assumption is blocked arteries, and to put in a stent. Sometimes they get in and see it’s not needed. Consider yourself lucky, it means you’re in better shape than they thought. Of course, question for your doctor is what was the presenting issue and why did it happen? Sometimes panic attacks or severe stress mimic heart attack symptoms.
Angina Stent ? Wasn’t she an adult film actress in the ‘70s ?

Don't know about that, but here's a Russian singer named Angina who dressed inappropriately for her appearance on a childrens' TV show.
Damn. Those puppies shouldn’t be that low at her age.
Your tag line is correct.....
And it's one of the guy's carotid arteries....Not his coronary arteries!!
Elderly woman, to leering, elderly man: “No, I said I had ‘acute ANGINA.’ “
Talked to a friend who has a friend, who says what they discovered was a blood clot about the size of a walnut, and hard as a rock, so they had to remove that, and then decided to wait for the rest of the procedur. I guess it all worked out. But thanks for your concern, and help;
It’s sad that you had to find out from a friend of a friend to find out what happened. Glad things worked out, but they should’ve kept you better informed.
