Fighting back: Sarah Palin in threat to sue over 'series of lies and rumours' in new book

An attorney for Sarah Palin is threatening to sue over a new book that he says defamed the Palins and contains 'a series of lies and rumours.'

John Tiemessen, in a letter to the publisher of Crown Publishing Group on Monday, cites an email that author Joe McGinniss allegedly sent a blogger in January seeking substantiation for several rumours that have surrounded Palin's family.

That email was posted online last week by Andrew Breitbart.

Mr Tiemessen says McGinniss' book, The Rogue: Searching For The Real Sarah Palin, contains 'most of' the stories that merely 'amounted to the wishful fantasies of disturbed individuals.'

Emails sent after hours to Crown Publishing, which is a division of Random House, and McGinniss weren't immediately returned, the Associated Press reports.

McGinniss lived next door to the Palins in Alaska last year while researching the book, which was released last week.....

I normally would agree that it's not a good policy to concern yourself with such nonsense. But this guy's garbage is especially revolting. Remember that the Palins have not bothered to contest other negative books of more substance like Mr. Bailey's.

Thank you for the email address:

To all whom it may concern: The fact that you published the book “The Rogue: Searching For The Real Sarah Palin” is a horrible reflection on you. For you to publish such blatant lies must mean that you have an agenda. It certainly is very poor publishing. I plan on never buying anything published by you again. I do not want to support a publishing house that obviously has an agenda contrary to everything I hold dear. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I sure hope that you are. I hope that Sarah Palin sues you for all the lies you published and you learn a lesson. Sincerely, XXXXX

Don't be obtuse. She's taking on Random House, the publishing world and the MSM by extension.

Enough of the lies and smears on conservatives by today's liberal elite.

I have supported and defended this woman in front of family, friends and others. I have defended her and supported her for over 3 years now.

but this is just a lowly mistake

I personally think she can do both.

Besides that's what she has "people" for...she wouldn't be spending much of her own time on this...and after all Clinton ran the country all the while trying to hide Monica under his desk...and lots of people thought he was a good president...

Perhaps you would have a different perspective if you and your family had been falsely attacked by the media for the past 3 years, and you also had to spend 5x your annual salary and all your days in court defending yourself against psychotic people that continuously filed frivolous lawsuits against you.

At some point, you have to say “enough is enough” and fight back and make a statement that if the shenanigans continue, that those smearing you will have to pay for their false attacks.

These people are just opponents, they are mentally unbalanced and won’t stop. Ever.

Unless they realize that if they continue, they will get a taste of their own medicine, get dragged into court, have to answer and defend against these frivolous accusations, and spend time and money defending themselves, but against real smears, not made up ones.

I totally disagree. I want my leaders fighting for themselves...or how can they/why would they fight for us? You should give this more thought. ‘Traditional’ methods of dealing with this stuff are not a Palin specialty.

Yes, she can do both. That’s why she hired a law firm to send a letter to Random House, letting them know that they have crossed the line and that future occurrences will be met with similar action.

Yes, Sarah Palin can hold office and raise a family.

She can also run for office if she chooses and to sue the crap out of the people attempting to ruin her reputation and her life.

She is obviously the consummate mulit-tasker....

She has lawyers. She should SUE if it's warranted.

You couldn't be a national leader in a time of great peril and also hire lawyers to sue a publisher...obvious from your post, because you can't imagine someone doing both effectively.

That doesn't mean others are incapable of it.

When ISN’t there a time of peril? CEOs are sued ans sue daily with no effect on their job. That holds no water.

I just don’t get how or why you take this position. Do you think she personally has to do anything besides turning the dogs of law loose and signing papers/answering a few questions? What’s that? An hour a week?

I don’t think she will be a “National Leader” as she is damaged goods in perception, not factually, thus the legal letter by the law firm to view emails between the author and Random House.

If their is anything actionable there, then there will likely be a lawsuit, which will send a message to the media and to others that further smears will end up costing them a fortune.

Perhaps she’s planning a run for 2016 in case Obama is re-elected. Don’t underestimate Palin. Many have and were very sorry they did.

And after the verbal assault on her daughter by that drunken idiot last week, the line was crossed.

Basically, Palin is saying “enough is enough” you F with me and I’m going to F with you, times 10 and you will pay.

Let’s see what happens when these people are facing a lifetime of bankruptcy due to legal fees, not to mention damages.

I`m reading the responses to your level-headed comments with growing confusion. Indeed, suing this slob diminishes Palin as you`ve suggested. However, she and her family have been battered so much, I am pleased to see that finally someone is being put on the spot for their smears. Maybe--a small maybe--some `news` organizations will be more reluctant to smear her in the future.

But the responses to your comments contradict the Palin fans`s stand-by that Palin resigned the governorship because legal issues took her attention away from her job and were a huge distraction and financial drain. So now she`s going to be able to bring up her family, possibly run for and serve as president AND spend money on a lawsuit she instigated [where is the money for that going to come from on a president`s salary?]

Either Palin gallantly can`t serve in office while dealing with lawsuits or she can--which is it?

The laws in Alaska and the laws in this case/situation are two different things entirely.

There she was constrained in dealing with ethics suits that she had to personally pay - all of which were ended in her favor.

Here it’s not HER ethics that are under the legal microscope, nor does she have to pay. Those ethics suits directly had effect on her ability to govern as they were aimed AT her and the state of Alaska/other govt employees who ALSO had to go out of pocket. Not so now.

For starters.

Did you read the article?

Palin’s law firm is serving notice to Random House that they want to see the emails between McGinness and Random House to see if their is anything actionable.

Palin will let her lawyers handle this, and she has more than enough money from her book sales and speaking fees to pay the attorneys.

Mainly, she’s sending a message.

It’s win/win for her, especially since McGinness basically admitted he couldn’t source these rumors, but Random House printed them anyway because “time ran out” and the book had to go to press, regardless of whether the contents had a shred of truth to them or not.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?

They sound like the same people that said Palin couldn’t serve as VP and raise a child at the same time.

Palin could serve as President, juggle several chain saws, raise her children and still have time to track, hunt, kill, field dress and cook dinner for her family.
