An email purported to be from linebacking legend Brandon Short is circulating around the Net and describes how football coach Joe Paterno behaved on the day after his Nov. 9 firing from Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
Short says that he and his wife spent part of Nov. 10 with Paterno.
The email says Paterno was more concerned about how his current and former players were affected than himself, and was talked out of holding a press conference.
Among Short's revelations is that Paterno specifically says that Coach Mike McQueary never told him "that he saw Jerry Sandusky raping a boy in our locker room shower."
Short who says he "thought he knew Jerry Sandusky extremely well" expressed shame and anger at his ow participation in Sandusky's The Second Mile organization for at-risk boys.

I would note that even if the accusations against JoPa are true has hasn’t done anything more that Obama’s safe schools czar has admitted doing. (This isn’t a defense of Jo Pa but a condemnation of Mr. Jennings)
I have trouble believing Joe Paterno, who has been married to the same woman for 60 years, lives in a very modest home, turned down millions to coach the Patriots to stay at PSU, insisted on academics first before playing star players, endorsed Ronald Reagan, etc. covered up a child molestation case. There has to be more to the story...Between Paterno’s word and the hysterical media, my money is on Paterno.
I’m inclined to agree.
For many years, I have thought that Joe Paterno was a good man. I don’t know what he knew and/or should or should not have done. What I do know is that many, many people have decided that they know. Without really knowing the facts, they have tried and convicted him in the press and called him every nasty name they can think of. Sadly, this is not a case about child abuse. If Joe Paterno was not involved, this case would be cold and dead. It is Joe Paterno’s celebrity status which is driving this case. People read about what happened because of Joe Paterno, not because of the child abuse angle. Or people are using this case to sell newspapers or up the traffic to their site. Similar cases are often mentioned in the press, but they disappear quickly.
I was at Ohio State when the wheels began to go off Woody’s program. I think that these coaches start out just managing everything and being in charge of every single detail. Early on they can do it and the system makes great progress. After many years, you tend to let the small stuff slide. Usually it doesn’t matter, but once you leave things slide, there is no one else watching that part of the store and scoundrels can go off on their own. All it takes is one betrayal of trust.
I can't agree with that. A child-abuse case of these dimensions at any major university is bound to be a big-deal in the Media. Look at all the cable News programs that are practically dedicated to this kind of story. Paterno is the 'face' of Penn State for good or ill. Until this story broke it was always for 'good'. Now he's the lightning rod.
That said, I believe that Joe Paterno should have done more.
Exactly. Joe ran a widely respected, and 'clean' football program. People naturally deferred to him on disciplinary matters. After a while the university just stopped looking over his shoulder. He was trusted.
Paterno is on record as being told that something sexual was happening between a young boy and Sandusky.
Let's stop the parsing of words, as if not knowing the exact details exonerates Paterno.
He did the minimum to cover himself legally.
This is a fact that he has admitted to.
So what part of that don't you grasp?
Accusations like this are the reason to defend Paterno.
You are claiming that Paterno was trying to protect himself and cover up a scandal. There is absolutely no reason to think that other than some perverse desire to believe the worst.
Me, I think Paterno was forwarding a report of possible crime to those equipped to determine the reliability of it and then notify the proper authorities.
Could I be wrong? Sure.
But it's one thing to point out more reasonable explanations in defense of one charged with wrongdoing than it is to accuse someone of wrongdoing without a scintilla of evidence.
You act like he didn't know Sandusky!
Patreno did not take the accusation to the local police where it should have gone.
So, if that were your son in that shower, you would feel that Paterno did all he was suppose to do?
Report it and forget it?
This issue isn't even debatable, what Petrano knew and what he did is on record, and it was, even by his own words, not enough-and it wasn't.
